I drive a Honda Civic Si and I love how good on gas it is. I've been driving Hondas for a long time now and have never had any major problem with any of them...except for when I crashed one

heheh thats the point, actually i prefer that because whichever american car i might be driving, everything is at the same place and is standard. Plus all I need can be accessed with one hand only, the other is holding that coke or big mac

big buttons for fat fingers

Actually is there a stock Japanese 4 door sedan that can take the M5 on the track?

sounds like you own one, or did, well BMW when it comes to reliability are uber crap, ball joints on the front suspension go around 40,000km(pythetic) now having that happen to two models is not a coninsidance, windows buttons tend not to work everytime, plus other electronics, I never owned a bmw and as much as i like them i would never cause they waste of money, unless you have the money like my uncle who buys them brand new. Mercedez is quite reliable, but bmw is junk, as for M5 if you compare to any japanese car that is in the same class, then the japanse car will put the m5 to shame lol, even the little 6 speed acuras can take that out, unless like my uncle you buys an X5 and add nitro lol . Btw, owe a swedish car Volvo and I fix and know quite a lot about cars, so don't tell everyone BMW are more reliable, cause it's funny to those who know, BMW have superb handling that's one thing, but japanese are just as good though

Cheers

I'd say it's because they're simply a more attractive alternative to the domestics in terms of looks and reliability, especially for those consumers who can't afford a European import..

So while I'd love to be getting a Mercedes Kompressor or BMW, chances are my next car is going to used Mazda or Honda

Note: Current cars; 2001 BMW M5, 2003 BMW MINI CooperS, 1999 Expedition Eddie Bauer Edition, contemplating 1985 BMW M6 (european import)...

For $33k someone convince me not to get the M6 please!

resale value and reliability...that's about it.

an '85? nah...you're throwing away 20 years of safety and innovation for a car that, although fun, will cost a fortune to maintain with scarce parts, I would guess?

I can't stand most Asian imports...except Subaru who makes some great cars (I'd kill for an STi). Most asian imports (re: Honda) have always been about hp with no torque with cheap interiors. That's great for the track and racing, but make for *boring* daily drivers. I'll take a GTi 1.8T and it's oodles of low-mid end torque over some lame RSX-S or Type R any day. The Civic Nation can kiss my ass

If you're buying an older car...I take it your mechanically competent. Why not a 1g or 2g DSM? For half of your 33k, you can pick up a decent AWD 1g for very little and turn it into a 12-second all-season beast

or drop that 33k on a new WRX and just enjoy! I'm all about small displacent turbo engines

Well originally it came from all the fobs that make it their second job to rice up their cars, and guess what, japanese cars have the most stuff you can do to the because theres tonnes of kits and mods available for them, far more than for european or american cars. A friend of mine almost ejaculates when he talks about what he could do with a late 80s civic hatchback hes so into it.

So anyway, it spread from there.

It's what the cool kids do guy.

PS - Civic Nation. lol i almost forgot about that. And yeah Id also go with the subaru wrx like the guy said, well if you can get over how ugly it looks.

I'll take a Honda over a VW any day. The lame RSX-S will out-do any 1.8T and is a hell of a lot more fun to drive.

Haven't rented too many Fords, but I have rented tons of GM's and I think they all stink personally. I hate them, and when I get home, I LOVE my car.

I can see we're on opposite ends of the spectrum in our car philosophies...it's all good...it's why Honda sells so many cars...people look at hp #s and stock 0-60 and go from there. I'll never understand the Honda image except for hard-core enthusiasts who know an old Civic can be made into a beast for relatively little money. For every Civic I respect, I see 30 I laugh at.

The only Honda I'd *ever* consider driving is an S2000...sweet car...but for that $$$ I could name a half-dozen other cars I'd rather drive.
