Hey:
Official capacity for all the rooms we will be using will max out at about 3,600 people. Add to that the massive 10,000 person patio (which is now our 2nd DJ space - and a highly produced venue in its own right.) and capacity shouldn't be an issue.
The crowd we are expecting will be much more mixed than previous years. Some will want to party with Barry Harris, some will want to mellow out in one of the lounges, some will be attending specifically to dance to our second room DJs. |
While I certainly want to see this party succeed (know a number of people involved with it), I'm still a bit skeptical about this all.
Where does the 3,600 capacity come from? The Docks' own website says that inside licensed capacity is 2,583, and this has been well documented in the media as well as a condition for them keeping their license.
Also, while I agree the patio is massive and can house any excess capacity required, you did mention that due to noise regulations, at 3am it is being shut down and moved inside. This essentially eliminates this excess capacity unless you think the majority of party goers want to just chill outside as opposed to go to listen to the music.
Sounds like there could be 1 of 3 scenarios going on here:
1) Ticket sales aren't even close to approaching the 3-4,000 mark, let alone 8,000, in which case capacity isn't too much of an issue.
2) At 3am you're expecting 1/2 the attendees to go home (certainly hasn't been the case at the predecessor Unity parties).
3) There's been a not-so-minor operational mistake made in choosing the location, and the ramifications haven't totally been thought through yet.
(I'm guessing there's a good possibility that #1 is at play here, for much the same reasons the previous Unity parties were moved from the various CNE locations to Guv / Kool Haus in the past year or two).
