Sure i give him credit... at least he realized in time that he was sick and turned himself in. Im not taking away from the incident but come on! The alternatives would have been gruesome at best.

As for the gun registry, although i dont support firearms and i dont own one, its very true when they say that "criminals wont register guns". This fiasco is nothing but a waste of money.

You're giving credit to this type of twisted logic then. The only reason the guy didn't begin his killing spree was because of the dog. Want to give credit, give it to the unknown forces that delivered
that dog to him... The guy is clearly insane, his actions are not credit worthy in my opinion. As a society we should either try to treat him, or put him in a safe place where he can't endanger us.

BTW. How come the Dogs name wasn't mentioned...fuggetabout the crazy dog lover, it's "Rover" who deserves the cookie for unknowingly averting a tragedy

Its funny how the media is talking about the calming effect pets can have on people which altered his thinking but nobody is talking about whatever negative aspects may have altered his thinking to begin with. The latter is the most important if we are going to talk about this at all.

I mean it is almost something out of a movie...Here's a guy armed to the teeth & along comes a lil doggie (awwwww) and starts playing with this guy...It almost seems like a divine intervention eh? ...I am also VERY relieved that he had "some" sense to come out of his dillusion & get help...

As for the gun registry...well it is a good idea but it was very badly managed obviously...It is a useful tool for the police in a sense that if you own a shotgun(s) for example and you store them properly in your house and then your house is broken into...And then they steal your gun(s) and use them in a crime in another part of the country then the police can locate where the gun came from & who owned them...Of course the weapon would have to be left behind at the crime scene though...ANyway if there is any way for the police to solve crimes where guns are used and the registry provides a clue to apprehending someone OR solving a crime then I think the gun registry should remain in place...

The media is focusing on the positives from this incedent, which is a good thing in my opinion. I'm sure there will be people who examine his mental stability, and try to decipher the inner working that set him on the path it did. But is it really important for us to understand ? Focusing on him, is sensationalizing the story ( something I wouldn't be suprised to see US new media do ).

What reasons he might have had for going on a murderous rampage will probably surface in a few days under the guise of 'news' for all those who'd love to delve deeper into his twisted mind.

Personally, i'd rather read about the 'positive' effects animals have on us, then hear the thoughts of another deranged individual with a whole loada guns....

Any talk about what altered his thinking to begin with (you mean, to make him decide to drive to Toronto, right?) would be entirely speculation at this point. Kudos to the media for not indulging in speculation...so far.
