cheers vlad. i'll likely be doing the same, just depends what i can get a better deal on and find used, the empath or the xone62...

sounds like the tascam is definitely out of the picture, though?

Than when I feel comfortable, Im gonna upgrade to a 464 or something else like a Urei if the funds are sufficent.

Urei is definately the best sounding mixer i ever owned

xone's are kinda like 1200's, everyone says they are the best blah blah blah. they are fucking sweet, but out of those i would choose the tascam x9.

unless you are a big audiophile, the sound quality difference between the tascam and a&h is negligible. the x9 has a really sweet fx box, whereas the filters on the a&h, while being fun to use, are very limiting.

i have not extensively used an empath, but it was built like a tank, thats for sure.

I really don't like the tascam xs9. To me it's just too much crap that's a pain in the ass to use. Plus, i don't like the feel of it's faders. For a noob i wouldn't suggest the tascam.

how come noone ever considers the vestax pmc-37 pro (my personal fav)?
its really an awesome mixer (especially if you like having the eq in faders instead of knobs)

I'd say the Rane or the 62...I own the Empath, and love it. The Xone will do you no wrong either, so ultimately its like comparing a Porsche 911 twin turbo vs. a Ferrari F40. Both are sweet rides that will get you lots of ass so pick the one YOU want and it won't be the wrong choice.

I'm actually strongly considering purchasing that mixer. I'm just not sure if its worth the money over the pcv 275. I also worry about those equilizer faders. They just seem very likely to break down.

well I solved the problem. I went ahead and got an Allen & Heath Xone 92 Rotary. Wow that's fuckin overboard for my first mixer...but I got a sweat deal on it. Now I just need some Technics...

its MUCH MUCH MUCH better then the pcv 275!!
main reason: source selection, the fact that you can have the same track playing on all 3 channels, each with diffrent eq settings (and diffrent fx if you have an effects unit), that fact alone makes this mixer one of the best in the market.
minor reasons: the filter & the fader eq (if you like it like that, like i do)

the only thing you got to worry regarding the eq faders is weather you will prefer to use them over knobs, they are not at all likely to break down.

btw, when i bought my mixer, my decision was between the X9 & the PMC37.
i went for the pmc37 mostly because i allready have an fx box (pioner efx500), and a little because i heard rumors that the x9 has got some serious bugs.

my partner on the other hand went for the empath which is a beautiful peice of gear by itself (i would have gone for it too, if it had the source selection the vestax has)
