I think almost all top-jocks mix harmonically, and those who don't play music in which it is not as essential.

Some forms of techno for instance can be mixed on beats only, and hardly contain any melodies.

If you have the Tiesto Nyana CD, check out the transition from Destination -> You Write the Rules. Harmonic mixing at its worst. But I think I knew where he tried to go with it, rhythmically that is.

Agreed,

It's different for compilations though as the guys who put them together sometimes have a limited amount of tracks that may not go together. Had they been doing it live they might have had the option of linking them with some other tracks.

This will sound nasty and I will try to be as diplomatic as possible but the fact is that once you start doing Harmonic Mixing, you will realise how little most DJs actually know about DJing. Best thing is to have an open mind to everything. I know it's not everyones thing and some people are plain against it, which is fine as they wont be taking any work from me in the near future.

As the previous post said, pretty much all the top guys do it except when it isn't needed as the music is more rythm based.

Come to think of it, DJing with trance (generally speaking) is more tone-intensive, as opposed to technique like the stereotypical scratch DJ.
