for a basement party... maybe one of your friends will bust you...
Don't play out at a legit event with illegitamate material, like a club or a promotional event set-up... for a basement party with friends no one will bust you... unless your friends are music-cops.
Anyways on topic... I'll say start with TTs... any self-respected DJ will at least know how to mix with vinyl, doesn't mean you have to start with it, but you should at some point. The feel... whatever maybe if you scratch and or manhandle the record alot this might make a difference to you, but you want vinyl, i know you do, you want those underground tracks and whitelabels... dont u? The fact of the matter is, if you want to keep legit you have to either play out using mostly popular tracks or burned ones from vinyl you own, and you cant burn ones from vinyl without having a TT, so anyway what I'm saying is I started with TTs, but I plan on trying the cdjs later, that way I can buy my vinyl use it on cd and download tracks for home use that I can try in my mix and buy them later on vinyl when I can. Right now, you should just remember that vinyl is still the undergrounds format of choice, so to keep legit and get whitelabels and enjoy crate-digging like alot of DJs find as a real gratifying experience as DJs, go with vinyl first, and use cdjs later... they're excellent tools.
However at the same time, if you're just starting to practise, it's not a bad idea to use some burnt tracks just to practise with, but then once you feel confident, you're going to want to get lots of new tracks that will be available only on vinyl... and download, so you're either going to stay forever in pirate-world or move on to TTs.
It's all commentary above... just TTs now, CDJs later is one of your best options.
