A couple of people mentioned they didn't know how he was spinning it, or maybe I just misread it, but...

If you watch the TiC DVD, I forget which part, but he takes a vinyl off and spins it without putting any effort into it. He just puts it on his finger, and spins the side.

Tiesto is using POS stanton dj-2000 headphones. Just because he's using them doesn't make em good.

If you want to do that then just make sure you get some of the skin from your fingertip in the hole. Then spin... practice a bit, it really isn't that hard.
If that's what you want to do then do it, don't let other people control who you are, if you do that then you will never succeed as a DJ.

DJing is as much about personality as anything else. And to me, the fact that you noticed what other DJs do (Not just spinning) shows that you have an attention for details and don't mind asking questions.

Old Chinese saying regarding the asking of questions...
Better to look stupid for five minutes than to be stupid for the rest of your life.

Only time these things go wrong if you take the credit for ideas that aren't yours. But just do what feels right and enjoy.

Cheers

The advanced version of this is as follows:

Spin it on your finger, hold it above the spinning platter and drop it (while its still spinning) so it lands straight on the spindle first attempt..
Takes loadsa practice.

Caution: Dont practice with your favourite records- i broke a few years ago when learning this, from them missing and hitting the tonearm etc...

Especially, if you do it with those thick promos/test pressings.

I can't believe I just wasted 120 seconds of my life reading this thread.

Maybe spinning records on your finger is covered in one of those cheezie "How to DJ" DVD's. You can really learn a lot from those, like how to hook up a turntable (a red and white wire, how confusing), move the crossfader (this is an advanced move). Why isn't there one of those "DJing for Dummies" bookes yet (you know the yellow ones)? A must for every DJ on my Christmas list.

Shoot me now please.
