You can't compare Britney Spears' lyrics and songs with Sarah McLachlan. Sarah McLachlan's songs hold depth, and genuine emotion. Spears sings about boys, and banging them. I mean, can you really group these two together?
I personally don't believe 'pop diva's' songs should be remixed by anyone. What's the point?? The trance I want to hear is not a part of America's pop stars. Notice I don't listen to them in my free time, why would i listen to a remix? |
Who might be a mere "pop diva" to you is respected and renowned to others, in other cultures too. For example, the Japanese see Britney very differently, but maybe that's in part because of their Idoru. There are all sorts of global tastes, and that diversity is wonderful!
You can definitely compare or at least relate, as I let music go to personal preference (yes, the whole REDUNDANT subjectivity thing). A large number of people I have talked to -- fellow Britney Spears fans -- have cried while listening to Britney's music, and consider it deep. Who am I to play technosnob (as I once admittedly did) and judge their personal experiences? Who am I to enjoy the music of Avril Lavigne, Jessica Simpson, and many others, and listen to them alongside the "underground" trance, noisecore, and other avant-garde stylistics I enjoy?
Hey, if a fellow by the name of Brian Transeau worked with Britney and Sarah and had good words to say about both -- which he did, despite record label politics -- it's good enough for me.
That being said, I similarly respect James's tastes and he has a passion for doing this.

Yes, and some think of her as a tawdry "trance diva". I myself do not.
