I agree with this!! I often put together a set of tunes which I think will go great together. But for some reason they don't sound right - maybe I did the transition too early or too late. Or sometimes they just clash. Surely you don't want to find this out when you're playing out in a club??!!

I'm not saying totally pre-plan a set from start to finish (which I have done in the past and it went fine - everyone enjoyed it )

I think its a good idea to have a few different ways to start your mix, e.g. if the person on before is playing trance/tech-house/prog then use some similar tunes to bring it round to what you want to play. But after say 4 tunes I would play the stuff that I wanted to. Once I got round to playing my true style then i would know where i wanted to go with my set already. Maybe i'm wrong but its just a different opinion

How Do You Manage UR PLAYLIST!?

I highly doubt Tiesto plans any of his sets. Like MichaelBoogerd! mentioned above.. I'm sure Tiesto has certain mixes that he knows go well with each other and chooses to mix those tunes together each and everytime he plays them. However, I know for a fact that he doesn't plan out his entire playlist like you've done above. The reason I know is because it is not uncommon for him to spin a six hour set. It would be impossible to memorize the tracklisting of over seventy songs.

But the most important part is being spontaneous. Without reading the crowd you will never make it as a good dj. You need to feed off your audience in order to pick your next track. Tiesto is so damn popular that he could play just about anything and still be praised as an awesome dj. But for beginners, like you and me, it is imperative to read the crowd and adjust your set to the needs of your audience.

some people would, and it is something you can get away with. my personal preference is to not plan any set, so when i do a demo i just do it straight off. i'm not the most succesful dj in the world () but i have sent demo's out twice, and got 3 gigs from them.. so it works for me

presentation is also very important with demo's.. make a decent looking cover and print a tracklist, it will make your cd stand out a bit from others
