my regret was buying american dj pro dj 3 cd players... i should have bought the cdj 100s instead. i had the pro dj 3s for about a year then sold them on ebay bought 100s and ive been set.

as for TTs i went straight for the mk5s with whitelabels. Im still happy with my mixer, vestax pmc 170a, its still a trooper but i'd like to upgrade sometime. only gripe i have is not being able to hear EQ changes while cueing other than that its lasted me 4yrs w/o any problems.

i am totally glad that i started on a shit setup. i started with numark tt1650's and a numark dm3002ex mixer, with pants numark headphones.

i am now safe in the knowledge that if i can put a set together on them, i can put a set together on fucking anything! i am one of these people that has the opinion that its better to learn on shit stuff, it gives you experience in things that more expensive stuff wouldn't give you. if you have mixed on technics all your life, you won't know how much attention you should give each record. a baby can operate them, so you will learn beatmatching better on a shit setup, then when you do move up to playing on proffesional equipment, you will be shit hot!

if anything, i think its more important to shell out on a good mixer at first.

You haven't started on shit until you've started on Beginner DJ package from gemini. Cost $200 which I thought was a good deal and it came with 2 shit ass belt driven turns, horrible 2 channel basic mixer, the crappiest needles and crappy street style headphones. Needless to say, I returned that box of cow poo and promptly spent a grand on two new 1200's, some decent stanton carts, a shitty gemini 626 mixer and v700's. Two years later and 4 grand more, I find myself sitting on much better equipment...albeit with 4 grand more of credit card debt.

Moral of this story - even if you start off with the best or upgrade, you will be paying A LOT of money, just maybe a bit less in the long run if u dont end up upgrading.

another moral of your story, is if you are going to buy a shit setup, at least get shit direct drive turntables

currently Im using two gemini TT (belt drive) and I can beatmatch on them, the only thing that limts me from doing a good set is that my mixer doesnt have low/high/middle knobs so I doesnt sound so good. If I can beatmatch on this setup I can beatmatch on everthing

Am i understanding what youre saying correctly? Your mixer doesnt have EQ? What model/brand is that? I've never seen a mixer with no EQ... Does it just have a crossfader and two up faders?

This is the same exact model

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...&category=23785

It has Bass and Treble knobs BUT they work for both channels LOL so Im not using them at all. Like I said before i got it for free and its good for start, its better to learn at a crappy setup.

I got two of those badboys LOL

my headphones HAHHAHA

Well, you can only go up from there. And mixing is only going to get easier.

Started with Gemini (turntables), Behringer (mixer), and some cheap-ass cd-player, and i now have Technics, Dateq, and Numark.

I went the patient route and saved for about 22 months straight to get my setup one piece at a time (completed it a couple of months back). I didn't want to end up having to upgrade, so I bought a modest but awesome mixer, Allen & Heath Xone:32, then an MK5, then another MK5. I user Senny HD280's and a pair of whitelabels and I wouldn't have it any other way! Regarding the reselling potential of technics decks, I always saw that as a null point because I have no idea why I'd ever want to sell my technics... unless I moved country (the dumbass american version is 110volt ONLY )
