Forget about the hits and seek specific albums as robert smith(the leader of the group) seems to be a bit cyclothymic(maniac-depressive?) as the mood of the tunes ranges from la-la pop to deep & dark newwave beauty. Therefore the absolute albums are seventeen seconds, faith, pornography and of course-the haunting disintegration. A bit of "kiss me kiss me kiss me" is ok and a few tunes from "wish" are good. Their dark 80s newwave/darkwave era is the one that the cure are known for though. If you like them seek also for joy division(and the later new order of course), bauhaus, siouxsie and the banshees, cocteau twins, clan of xymox(these are even better try to find their "medusa" album),OMD(enola gay you must remember that),depeche mode, echo & the bunnymen(ocean rain-one of the most beautiful newwave albums),danse society(one of my personal favourites but very hard to find), sisters of mercy, the chameleons u.k(THE BEST NEWWAVE GROUP.)
Specific tunes are:
the forest,in your house, charlotte sometimes(which is not featured in any studio album just in "best of" collections-a tune that gives me goosebumbs every time i hear it),the holy hour, primary, all cats are gray, the funeral party, the drawning man (the last ones are from the faith album),one hundred years, short-term effect, the hanging garden, the figure head(unbelievable tune), cold(these are from pornography),and of course the whole disintegration album with tunes like, pictures of you, lullaby, love song, the last dance, disintegration, the same deep water as you(epic!),homesick and all the others!2-3 tunes from the head on the doors are cool as well. Try to avoid at any costs albums(and tunes) like boys don't cry, the top, japanese whispers(or whatever is called) and most of their 90s albums.
