Its a pretty fine line between naïve and ignorant.

It this the media's fault, or the people themselves?

I'm not sure how you can drink that American beer.

It tastes like piss, and watered down piss at that.

no one expects you to know everything aobut foreign societies, but basic knowledge would be expected.

and that is something many americans dont have

Why don't you go iron your kilt

I think I smell burning haggis....you forget to take it out of the oven Fundo?

One thing some people do not realize is that, just as Australians, British, etc. like to fuck with American tourists, some Americans like to do the same thing by asking those cliche questions because they know it will piss people off.

I got into a converstion with a guy at aq bar in Sydney about the driving on the side of the road thing, just for the hell of it.

But many americans are blissfuilly ignorant of many things even inside our country.

It's a combination of both. Obviously the media doesn't teach school age children not to study foreign countries, etc ... but they do play a major role in the whole nationalization/pride/every other country is shit and their customs are bad if they aren't the same as ours.

you have your stupid people in every country. i'm sure if i walked the streets of london i could find some people that didn't know where colorado was...or maybe that thought i must live in a giant skyscrapper...or that my dad must be a movie star...

i will say that foreign countries as a whole more well educated in the us then we are in their countries, but its a little much to typecast us all into that category especially those that are apart of an international forum such as TA.
