I make sure it isn't epic or anthem trance. I make sure it's from what in my opinion is a good DJ. It's a plus if the mix has more than 20 tracks, but if I stayed strictly to that rule, i'd only be able to buy Bad Boy Bill mixes. I like him, his style, and his CD's but I also like most other genres as well and not everyone can actually DJ on all of their CD's like he does. Maybe Hawtin and Clarke occasionaly. I was surprised to find Carl Cox has several decent 20+ track mix CD's.

Or in the case of an unkonwn genre to me like DnB i'll go for a name I recognize. I wanted a DnB CD and I got a Dieselboy mix because i'd heard of him before. I think it's a good compilation myself, but then what do I know about DnB...nothing really. I had the choice of the Dieselboy CD I bought, a Dieselboy CD with DnB remixes of Trance tracks, LTJ Bukem's depressing DnB artist album that had like 9 tracks on it, or one of those "DnB master mix compilation 2003" CD's from the music store I was in. I think I made the right choice though.

Same here! And full versions of the songs, preferably. (I know, I know, it's not as cool as vinyl, but I'm poor yet I want to play songs legally).

tbh i go for tracklisting

last ones i bought was ASOT 2004/Ahead/Positive Ways 3 and now Vandit: The Sessions Vol. 3

all by big name DJ's. if one track is out of place im the tracklist i just shudder

for example: Trancemaster s 3 CD in the UK

nice list:

1. Ferry Corsten - Rock Your Body Rock (Rennie Pilgrim Remix) wtf is that a breaks remix?
2. Sander van Doorn - Loaded
3. Motorcycle - As The Rush Comes (Armin van Buuren Universal Religion Remix)how old is this??
4. Paul van Dyk - Crush (Vandit Club Mix)
5. Three Drives - Air Traffic
6. Witness of Wonder - Emotions in Motion
7. Tiesto featuring BT - Love Comes Again
8. Ton T.B. - Dream Machine
9. Armin van Buuren feat. Justine Suissa - Burned With Desire (Brian Cross Remix) one of my favs of the past year
10. Envio - Time To Say Goodbye
11. Riley & Durrant - Suddenly
12. Darren Tate - DeliveranceDOES THIS BELONG HERE??
13. Slipmatt & Lime - Our FutureDOES THIS BELONG HERE??
14. Lasgo - Surrender (Cor Fijneman Remix)DOES THIS BELONG HERE??
15. Sam Sharp - Twister (Ron van den Beuken Mix)DOES THIS BELONG HERE??

[SIZE=1]

they ruin it so much with tracks that are mediocre and dont belong on the first CD.

I couldnt care who mixed them, i dont care how they were mixed (pc mixing isnt THAT bad ) i just need the latest tracks and the best order of tracks

thats why i went for ASOT 2004 and Positive Ways 3, the newest tracks and a good order

most of what is the deciding factor is tracklisting and who did the mixing, and maybe not as significant are artwork and price.

1. It has got to be from a DJ that I know
2. It has got to be a CD with a great track selection
3. It has got to be something I have been anticipating
4. It has to be a quality production (I mean: art design, a nice booklet, etc...)

...and I guess that's all...

The tracklisting, and the number of tracks on the album- too many and it's crap mixing in effect and the tunes just slam into each other, too few and it's too expensive (and also could well be crap mixing).

I look at the price. If it's above $15, you won't see me purchasing it. Most of the electronica albums around here range from $18-30. I simply can not see spending that much money on a CD.

Most of them are priced that high because of the import tax, I wish the record companies would open some labels over here so they can print copies in the states.

I usually spend my money on vinyl, artist albums, or compilations mixed by the big dj's nowadays.

I used to buy compilations every now and then but I've been holding back for the past year or so because they are the same crap over and over again. I think 90% of the trance compilations I've seen in stores this year have had Burned With Desire, As the Rush Comes, Love Comes Again, and Time of Our Lives. I have 76, Just Be, and Reflections and I've had ATRC since it came out on Nyana back in May of last year, so seeing all of these tracks on a compilation is discouraging. Add the fact that a computer probably mixed the cd makes me not want to buy the cd even more.
