I live in Georgetown (45 mins north west of TO), and it is probably the least diverse town in the GTA. Out of 1500 kids at my high school, about 20 were non-white. With such a small minority of non-whites one would think that racism would be high, yet, it was the opposite. The black/asian kids were actually more popular than the whites, simply because they were different.

Get this.
I worked in a huge company for co-op and did an amazing job. They wanted me back so my managers all promised me a job once i graduated.

Turns out, at the time i graduated, there was a hiring freeze. 6 months later i get a call and an offer for an interview. Because i know many people there, i found out that there were 12 people being interviewed for a programming position. I was the only male, and the only white person there. The remaining 11 were all female, visible minorites. I didnt get the job but i hear the person who did is a real tool. I was perfect for this job and they knew it. The company is largely comprised of white males too.

I cant really complain because things have worked out way better than i had ever expected.

My thoughts are, if society wasnt so quick to use the race card, companies wouldnt have the unwritten demographic quotas. WTF ever happened to qualifications. Why are qualifications being ignored.

I call it reverse discrimination!

yeah, its sucks, but its necessary. quota systems(same as american affirmative action) were orginally set up so that in 20-40 years racisms wouldn't affect the hiring process, and its worked.
if u have all white males in position to hire lower staff, then women and visible minorities have a harder time being hired and moving up the ranks to higher management themselves. in the can. gov't when they originally brought in the quota system (ccrf time) the plan was to eventually phase them out, once the job market was more representative of the population. hopefully that'll be soon

NO DISCRIMINATION OF ANY KIND IS OK.

When i look at applications i look at the best qualified and the most motivated. I dont care what race they are. I live in an area of mostly white people but i bet if i hired nobody but black and asians nobody would say a word right? Thats just wrong.

Your philosophy might hold up for unskilled labour (that also gets paid shit), but try to apply your logic to positions required skilled/educated labour and see if certain groups aren't immediately at a significant disadvantage.

It doesnt matter what job it is. Discrimination is wrong and i find that these days if there is any, it goes the other way. Just look at how the government hires for example. They sometimes even say "only minorities need apply". That chillingly reminds me of the "white only" fountains and restaurants of the 1950s in Alabama.

well what if the job is specifically for minorities to help other minorities? just a thought. obviously i dont know the specifics.

I think the business world, including all other jobs, have gotten a lot better at hiring minorities, and women. But, in the very top of the organizational structures, it is still comprised of white males. My company, a large accounting firm: You can find women, and minorities everywhere in the corporate structure, until you get to the Partners. Then its just white males. I was supprised to see so many women/minorities at my place of employment, but i was not supprised to see only white males as Partners.

Am i to believe that they cannot find qualified minorities or women for these positions? Yes there are a few, but it is definatly disproportionate.
