Maddox is plain annoying... and these rants are pretty much based on ignorance.
1) if the person is pointing to his watch, that's because people often ask "What?" when approached by a stranger, for a big variety of reasons. By the instant you see the person pointing to his wrist, you know he wants to know what time it is.
2) Some TV's don't have the button thingies anymore, or people may just be wondering where the heck the remote control is, so they don't need to stand up every bloody time.

13) No it's not like this. Besides, after working automatically, "breaking the rhythm" is always a bit strange. That's why people who speak American English, for example, may have a hard time understanding Australians - it's different from what they're used to, so they need to re-associate everything.
