I chew gum instead. I used to bite my fingers nails all the time. It's the same reason I smoked, I just have some kind of oral fixation. I'll chew on pens, gum, etc ...

sounds like you never grew out of Freud's psychosexual development "oral" stage... it's common. don't sweat it. but try not to bite your nails....all that dirt and germs...yuck.

But seriously, when i was a toddler, my dad put tobasco on thumbs to get me to stop sucking my thumb.

It'll stink, or maybe you'll start liking tobasco, but it'll get you attention long enough for you to realize to stop yourself from biting on them.

I agree. I used to bite my nails all the time, I had braces put on and stopped. You stop because you can't do it with braces, but ever since I took the braces off I don't do it anymore. Just doesn't feel right.
