Technically, if time travel were possible, it seems more logical to be able to travel to the future rather than to the past. The concept of "time" is known as very hard-to-grasp and might just be too complex for humans to comprehend.
Hmmm that could be true, but you know what? By traveling to the past and giving us all the information and details about time travelling, it could be more beneficial. why? after the travellers go back to their future they might experience a more futuristic world in their present age.

By altering the past, it's very much possible that an alternate timeline arise considering the definite "already-around" timeline can't be altered.
I'd like to state that travelling into the past seems way too farfetched and right out of a sci-fi flick. The possibility is just proposterous.

Like I like to say...
When in doubt:
MULTIVERSE!
There was that episode of Sliders where they technically didn't travel to the past, but to a parallel Earth where development happened slower or something -- I don't think it was just rotating slower unless the relativistic timeframe was sync'ed differently -- so Quinn was visiting his boyhood self. That's one way around it.
Like I like to say...
When in doubt:
PLOT DEVICE!

Sadly, PLOT HOLES go hand in hand with a plot device. And since this is the real world, there should be LOTS of 'em.

HAHA. THAT'S SO TRUE.
Yeah, for all those depictions of time travel in sci-fi ranging from some clumsy Star Trek moments (they've had a share of brilliant ones too) to the keen perspective of Donnie Darko to the blockbuster just-don't-look-back-and-think-too-hard of The Time Machine (most recent version starring Guy Pearce), there are...
dum dum dum!
PLOT HOLES
There should be a movie parody (of sorts, maybe acerbically sarcastic) called PLOT HOLES. And the whole movie is about plot holes and people falling into them. Or something.

What's the need? Half the flicks that're coming out now are full of them. I get a laugh out of those.

Oh, botcho supreme. Yeah one of those movies that you hope you get engrossed in the ambience and forboding suspense so you don't start to think too hard about what problems there might be.
Did you see the Scary Movie 3 parody too?
