He probably meant Spaten, since that is a beer that people can easily buy in the US.
It is important to note that SOME (note that I am not saying all, but i have heard it from multiple people on multiple occassions) americans believe that we germans drink our beer warm. That is not the case, all beer that I have ever had in germany was served COLD.
In britain certain beers are served warmer....
anyway, you can get Weihenstephaner Weizen in the US, though it is quite hard to find. Franziskaner (Kristall-, Hefe- and Club-Weizen) is easier to get (at least in PA it is quite common) and so is Paulaner.
