hahaha...hippies? no.

do we share some common elements? perhaps...

For the most part, the trance scene (and EDM scene in general) is very inclusive...people meet complete strangers and party together...the PLUR thing is still alive and well in many people's minds

Instead of sharing a joint though, people now might split an e

I was at a house party a few days ago and a friend who i haven't spoken to in a while who's also a complete addict to trance music and all the "enhancements" to the trance feeling and such told me that quote.

Coming from him, it didn't seem very intellectual, but then I thought that it's worthy to discuss it, simply because we share similar ideals that the 60s/early70s hippies did... such as..

PLUR... this must be the most hippie style acronym we've used at events so far.

Then I thought of WEMF!!!!!!....WEMF!!! of all things!...it hit me in the face outright!... woodstock was the hippie gettogether of their era. WEMF is our era's getogether of the modern 21st century hippie.

a 2st century hippie, as I think it, is one who had adapted into the new information/technology age, and used it to embrace music we love.

I think that if the pure basis of the 60s hippie was only the socio-political issues they had, then we are not those 60s hippies. If it was about loving the music, which in turn gave every1 a feel-good time and made ppl get together and realize unity from loving a style of music so much, then i believe that every one of us who can't get enough trance music into our ears, is in effect, a modern 21st century hippie.... but that's just my take

Um... what about Love Parade? Dance Valley?

I truly love EDM and our scene but I don't think it makes us any more "modern" than our peers. My favourite dudes (and dudettes) on this board to party with are the down-to-earth ones who don't see trance music as an integral part of their personal identity. It's a common interest... fun parties... but not a way of life.

fuck PLUR.

the only reason someone can call themselves a hippie these days, if they fight The Man, protect the earth, eat only shrubs and wear ponchos.

there is a lot of people that i have met that i would consider hippies right now and it has nothing to do with the music just like it didn't have anything to do with the music back then.

the only thing close to being a hippie festival right now in Canada is the Om fesitval.
