Played the game on my friend's 2ghz P4 and it lags... SPECS are ridiculous!!! but Id has always been this way, they just cant seem to be able to build a freakin engine that doesnt require a monster rig to run, like everybody buys a new PC every year

Actually the Doom3 specs were over hyped. I can play it on secondary PC, P4 2.8 w/ 9600 fine, and friend plays it on his XP 2500 w/ 8500, niether of which are "monster rigs". Sure it doesnt look as good as on my XP 2500@3200 and GF 6800, but even my specs are overkill. I get 50FPS at 1600x1200 @ HQ w/o any tweaks. If I knew I was going to get that much I wouldnt have spent $275 on the video card, especially since I havent touched the game since the release (needs better maps and a decent mod, yes I love MP).

Another example of id software engine is Quake 3. Ran fine on my lowend Celeron 333@550 w/ Voodoo2 24MB SLI which I originally got for Quake 2. Let's not forget the lovely r_picmip 5

Oh hey, you know Half-life which everyone including thier grandma's old Pentium onboard video system can run, is based on the Quake engine (w/ some Quake2 IIRC).

Doom 3 has some of the most advance graphics out there right now, and you can have the fastest processor/ram that money can buy, but you dont even have close to enough fire power to handle that game on your vid card. It runs more of your video card than anything else in your machine. After all the wait for this game everybody knew that months b4 it came out. I wouldnt have even attempted to run it with out a proper video card. Buying that game was a waist of money unless you plan on upgrading(video card) any time soon.

The game runs at 800x600, medium quality and it's almost impossible to play.

Well well, I'm sure there's alot of other dissapointed people out there. And I realize that my card isn't actually meant for gaming, but come on! Dual Xenons!? Do I have to steal a supercomputer from the go vernment to play this game?

Cheers....

Update all the drivers.

Isn't the Quadro FX 1000 a card that excels in opengl apps and used for graphic workstations that do CAD, 3DSMax, Maya, and that type of thing? Its not really made for gaming is it? I'm wondering if its holding you back. That card's direct3d performance might be lacking but I could be wrong. What is your 3DMark 2003 score with your system? You can compare your scores to others with the same setup on the Futuremark website as you to help determine what is going wrong.

Finally, and this helped my performance BIGTIME, go into your Doom III directory and into the Base folder. Now edit the DoomConfig.cfg file. Go down and find the value seta image_cacheMegs "20" Change that 20 to 256 since you have 1 GB of RAM. Now run the game and you should notice a big increase in your FPS. After making this tweak, I'm now able to play the game at 1024x768 at High Quality and its totally smooth whereas before that tweak, I had to run it in 800x600 at Medium Quality and it choked all over the place. Good luck!

Thanks for the tip. I can now run DOOM 3 at 1280 x 1024 with ultra high qualifty, all effects on and 8x antistrophic filtering
