Just my $0.02.

exactly, you can't lead all the time in every situation or you'll be seen as a stubborn prick

Hm... Right now out of 25 people who voted, 48% say they are leaders.

Well, sorry to dissapoint you guys but percentage of real good leaders is much lower than that. So either you are a shit leader, or you happen to of the few good leaders. Statistically though, it is more likely that you are a shit leader.

So, what I recommend is, try to evaluate how good of a leader you really are, and if you realize that you aren't that good - become a follower. Life will be so much simpler.

Oh. As for me.. I'm a follower, always was, always will be.

A lot of things. Mostly automation systems in the "big picture", started out in software and moving more into hardware and electronics now that I have my degree. I've done other types of work though.

You'd be amazed at how much some companies can piss away on needless labour costs.

Personally I've never really liked the leader/follower division. Even CEOs often follow their advisors or the examples of other successful companies. It's more of a whole spectrum than a black-and-white question.

Well, following advice and following "orders" are two slightly different things.

You can have leadership skills and wualities without owning your own business.

leadership makes itself apparent in many more situations than the workplace.

This poll doesn't make sense - the demographic you're asking is way too young to own their own business, for the most part.

It makes perfect sense if you read the original post carefully. I'm not asking about their SKILLS, i'm asking about their POSITION.

WHEN IT COMES TO WORK, are you a leader or a follower? And i mean this literally: in other words, a manager wouldn't be considered a leader since he's following the owner. He could however, be considered an aspiring leader. You get the picture. Now stop being lazy and vote

Also, the 'leader, used to be follower' option doesn't apply to summer jobs and the like. So if you graduated and went on to open a law practice, but worked in McDonalds during the summers while studying, select the 'leader, always have been' option.

This is retarded - you assume that only managers are leaders in an organization. If no one else was a leader, only the manager, then the manager would have to micromanage everything. Leadership is not about micromanagement, it is enlisting employees with independent responsibilities of their own and giving them freedom to take initiative on their own.

Leadership is apparent at ALL levels of an organization. In my job, yes, I am a leader. I am responsible for projects, process improvements, department education initiatives - all of which require leadership. Am I a manager? No.

and further to that - if by following you definition of leader = manager, how can anyone answer "leader - always has been"?

No one is born into a managerial role.

Anyway (your lack of reading comprehension aside ), what i was trying to clarify by saying that is that in this thread, the world "leader" will be used to describe a "top-level leader" ONLY. That way, Wendys managers wouldn't end up in the same group as corporate CEOs. Obviously, very few people understood this very crucial concept. Either that or 2/3 of TOTAs are business owners
