you tell them 2 1/2 years into your warranty whatever you bought doesn't work as well as when it first did.... and they'll replace it with something new... and since it'll probably be too expensive to replace your (old) model, they'll give you the newer model of which you paid (the amount)..

so if you bought that canon camera 3 years ago for 500$ and took it in today, they'd give you a $500 camera..

another thing.. NEVER EVER EVER EVER buy electronics at futureshop/bestbuy.

NEVER

did you just contradict yourself in that post?

yes i did kind of... but doesn't matter.. anything you buy it doesn't hurt to get the extended warranty, whether it's at futureshop or somewhere else...

and yes i can backup the claims.. i used to work at the distrobution centre & the first thing my supervisor told me was

"don't buy any major appliances from futureshop, becuase right behind this wall (he pointed towards the wall in front of me) is where we fix up 90% of the items that are broken & sell them as brand new..."

if you took that to the press it'd be a huge story

of course, you'd probably get hit with a defamation suit...

well fixing 90% of whats broken and selling them is not the same as 90% of the things sold at Futureshop are refurbished.

This is illegal. Refurbs or remanufactured items must be clearly marked as such.

I doubt FutureShop/BestBuy sells refurbs or remanufactured items as new.

I've worked retail/sales most of my life, and if it can be fixed in store then they can get away with not advertising it as refurbished... Items sent away to be fix by said professional then becomes a refurbed item... When fixed in store it must be sold at a discounted price, but reasons don't have to be stated... Of course I don't agree with pretty much anything stores de behind their walls...
As long as there are no extremly loose pices, and nothing looks broken you can always lie and say it has stopped working... Unless they can prove without a doubt that you yourself broke they are required by you warranty to fix it, unless the broken item/piece isn't covered under warranty... Which all that info should be stated somewhere in the warranted contract...
Now did you take it in and tell them your dropped it? If you did there are also ways around that...
Let me know if you want some more advice, I know most loop holes, mainly because I am retched with electronics, and they always want me to pay...lol

you can get away with almost anything at FutureShop, as long as you don't admit it's your fault for the item not working. As long as they can't prove it that it's your fault, they are required to fix it for you or give you a new one... if you have the extended warranty.

But since I will never buy stuff at FS again (and haven't for the last couple of years), let alone get extended warranty, I'm not the best person to give advice here. Or am I?

CBC did a report on this of some kid who baught a 400 dollar mp3 player...They pulled some hidden camera shit and caught Managers and employees stating that the warranty will cover accidents...which is not true

The conclusion was...that u just bring it there and say it broke in ur hands. That u didnt drop it/misuse it...but it simply broke. Its ur word against theirs and well they should apply by the rule of "The customer is always right"

So just tell them it broke and u dont know how

Sebastiano

Good luck man...there pure con-artists

P.S. On another note...i have an eerie feeling about FutureShop...especially the one on Dundas East...Everyone is the same Color...and everyone uses the same language...Not being English...Wtf is up with that.

I didn't work at a store, i worked at the best buy distrobution centre. That's where all of hte items went back when they were returned to the stores with problems.

It's not illegal actually (the way they did it) but it was hinted that the Parent (best buy america) didn't know what was going on.

I'm sure if they did management here would get a really big overhall...
