i have a samsung .. i forgot the dimensions of it, because i am not on it right now .. all i remember is that it can record a cd 32X (cd-r)..

but anyways, working pretty well right now, and going to almost two years .. very dependable .. has not had any skip errors or write errors..

wrote almost 200+ cds so far ..
sometimes the usual cd-rw write errors (data cyclic redundancy errors .. everyone gets those...)

as for cds, nothing beats memorex

Plextor are good yes, Their support is also suberb
I have the Plextor px 708 A. I think it has won a couple of prizes.

My burner have been kinda shitty though. Got a new in return ( in fact, a retail package)

The media I use: TDK, Verbatim... those are considered the Best one.
I also use Thats write for dvd, Got myself a 25 pack of Medianca 4x. Maybe I can "tweek" them to 8

At work we used to buy Plextor and for some reason they all died. Then we got LG and so far it is great.

LG 52x32x52x CD-RW Drive (OEM) $30
LG 8x+ / 4x- DVD Writer Drive (OEM/No Software) $79

This is in Cnd dollars so the price is pretty good here in Canada.

BTW we also had HP burners .... CRAP !!

I'd get the LG DVD writer. 8X
