He's pathetic, it's not the olympic spirit to refuse to face anyone. It gives the games a political overtone and the games are supposed to as free from politics as possible.

The Iranian government is not only in control of the politics and the economy but they control every major event in the country including sporting events. The athletes are not responsible for the decisions they make, they are merely following orders... and that's a shame.

I wonder though. This is surely not the first time an Iranian athelete has faced an Israeli in competiton??

The odds are over the past 30 years since the Shas the athelets should of had the 'fortune' of competing against one another.

Anyone know a bit more?

I've heard it's the other way around... he didn't want to face the Israeli guy, so he got disqualified for being over weight on purpose so they wouldn't regard it as a political move.

have you guys ever actually paid attention to the olympics? free from politics? amateur ideals? time for you lot to get out from under whatever rock you are hiding.
so an athlete decided to make what he felt was a moral stand against a nation he felt was persecuting another nation. he did what he felt was right and you lot make it sound like that is poor morals.
