you cant expect phelps to win in his off event, just like you wouldnt expect thorpe to win in the 400 IM. but at least phelps is good enough to make the olympics in pretty much anything he tried out in. |
That is exactly my point. I was a swimmer and also did some diving. These athletes may not excel in every event, but they are far better than average. Just making it to the Olympics is an accomplishment within itself. Just as David said...Phelps was a contender. No one said OMG he is the ultimate winner of anything and everything that is Olympics!
So much hate for one Olympian. It's almost amusing. If you need to hate so bad go hate on the drug dealer standing on the street corner slinging heroin to 12 year olds.
I think Michael Phelps should be proud of his accomplishments so far in his life.
Michael Phelps
Became the first American in history to qualify for the Olympic Games in six individual events at the 2004 U.S. Olympic Trials.
In 2000, became the youngest American male swimmer (15) to compete in Olympic Games since 1932; finished fifth in the 200m butterfly.
Current world-record holder in the 200m fly, 200m IM, and 400m IM; at the 2001 Spring Nationals, became the youngest man to break a world record (15 years, nine months).
Became the first swimmer to set five world records at one meet at the 2003 World Championships; winning four golds and two silvers.
Won the prestigious 2003 Sullivan Award as the top U.S. amateur athlete.
First man in history to win titles in three different strokes at one national championship in 2003.
Finished 2002 ranked number one in the world in three events.
In three short years (2001-2003), has won national titles in six different events.
