Chicane's album, Far From the Maddening Crowds

It was one of the major players which got me into EDM when I was into rock/indie... so hopefully may work for others too

Armin.. 76 is a great choice. Another one would be Armin vs Corsten - Trance Match. Unfortunately I believe that only came out in Japan so you would have to get it as a pricey import, but that's one of my favorite trance albums.

Ferry (his earlier non-electro stuff) is great too for introducing people to trance.

Basically something not mega repetitive, that has a strong melody, and preferably mixed up with vocal and non-vocal tracks.

I've found that Airbase works really well (Rock, Ionize, Rise and so on)
And a track I always use is Solar Stone - Solarcoaster
Then if you see that the person likes it you give him some good liveset or something and hopefully he gets hooked
I guess 76 and Just Be would be good tools too :]

I've gotten several friends to start liking trance this way

I would say "hey, don't go into Electronica, it's not for you, leave it the fuck alone, don't even try or research on your own, I'm not giving it to you on a platter"

The previous posts are all great.

I see one that seperates a male and female tastes which is good. What about someone who likes rock or rap and they want to try EDM or Trance what would you do? Who would you say is a mainstream DJ that is not commercialized? Do you intro them to Oakey, Sasha/Digweed? What about like the Global Underground or Ministry of Sound comps?

Remember this post will more than likely get neophytes to change their listening habits. This forum post would be a great place to start. So please suggest away.

I have found out personaly that people who like rock/metal always seem to enjoy DNB.Mostly Dieselboy and Bad Company. They also like The Crystal Method (i really dont know what EDM gendre they fit into thought)

As for rap lovers
But this tracks might work for them:

Bt-Knowlege of Self
Bt- Madskillz-Mic Checha
Roni size - brown paper bag (vocal mix)(its DNB by the way)
The Crystal Method - Trickshot

I would probably give them melodic stuff to listen to. If you give them a long club song then they'll most probably hate it because everyone thinks trance is just 10 minute songs that have the same beat. I would start the person off with:
ATB - 9 P.M.
Rank 1 - Airwave
Oceanlab - Satellite
Motorcycle - As The Rush Comes (Always works)
Yahel - Voyage
and stuff like that.

You kidding? I would say that was FAR from representative of trance... it's just a simple commercial dance tune. Also I dunno how big it was over in the states but it got #1 over here back in 99, just about everyone's heard of it... and most of them aren't trance fans, go figure.
