I personally think he did feel honoured to be a part of the olympic ceremonies - but even if he did do it for the money, I don't think there would be anything wrong with that who cares

If we all found out that Tiesto had done the olympic cermonies for money.. would you really lose respect for him? Dj'ing is his CAREER

totally agree with that, although there was a lot of people bashing on tiesto before this event telling that he only did it for the money, bla bla bla

No imaginable performance fee, even in the hundreds of thousands of dollars, could ever top the amount of money he's going to make off the publicity generated for him by this event. His music was heard by four billion people at the same time. There's simply no other method on earth that could promote a musician to such an extent. This is big business, and trust me when i say that there's more to this story than he claims. I have a hard time believing that two middle-aged Greek music directors came up with the idea of inviting a trance DJ to play at the Olympics. I'm betting they're both somewhat richer now, if you catch my drift. The only mistake he made was not making sure the announcers would get his name right when mentioning him. (I would have printed out small leaflets in different languages and had someone stand by the entrance to the announcer booth to hand them out to the announcers on their way in.) Don't get me wrong, i'm not criticizing him for his involvement, but praising him. You can never be successfull at anything, including music, unless you're a good salesman. That's why countless talented musicians have come and gone without anyone ever really hearing about them.

I don't recall anyone saying he was doing it for the money. I said he was doing it for the publicity, and that assessment still stands.

Fuck Tiesto. The more I hear about what he's doing the more I hate his guts. It makes me very sad listening to Magik VI or his set at Dutch Dimension and thinking about the direction he took off in with his popularity. He's a conceited money whore, like Wayne Gretzky and Barbara Streisand.

and that was just a quick search...

I stand corrected. I guess I did say some shit about money in my many posts in that thread.

In any event, fame and fortune are one and the same when it comes to being a celebrity. Publicity stunts are no better than cash grabs, IMO.

LOL -- Of course he did it for free !!! For gods sake, you think the man would have the audacity to actually charge to play in the olympics when he knows there are hundreads of other more talented artists who are just itching to play in front of a global audience the magnitude that only the games can attract.

Most of the people weren't bashing Tiesto because of the money he makes, they were bashing him because in their opinion he is a mediocre DJ. Which he is.

That doesn't say anything about whether he got paid a lot or a little or nothing. he just said he didn't care about the money - that doesnt mean he still wasn't paid $30K.

I never said he got paid one way or the other. I simply pointed out that what he said that was quoted in the original post doesn't prove he got paid one way or the other. He just said he didn't care.

You people need to take a reading comprehension course. sheesh.

please look again:

"there was NO budget for a DJ fee"

WTF?

For me "no budget" means, "no money", and no money for a dj fee means that he didn't get payed. tell me how else you might interpet that!?!?
