Heh, you sound as if soccer's the only sport that allows a person to follow it pationatly. I dunno, but to me, you sound like the bigot here
I know this thread isn't about hockey, but try growing up in a country where hockey is religion, and every kids dream is to play a game in the NHL and to hoist the Stanley Cup. Oh but wait, in the thread about the NHL strike you called hockey boring, so I guess you really wouldn't appreciate the feeling of watching a bunch of 18 year old kids playing their hearts out for the flag on their chests.
And just because a country is "shit at the sport" really can't be an arguement you're using to justify your opinions. Seriously, get real.

It doesn't really compare.
A national competition, or a sport that is not embraced globally is not going to have the same excitement or appeal of one that is truly the world game. The prices playerrs get paid, the skill , the expectation of a nation, the joy, the heartbreak, the travel, its truly one on its own.
Sure people can get worked up over their local sport, and in Australia we have many, AFL, NRL, and they are good, but its not the same level of prestige.
But I can understand someone that lives in a country where the local competition is crap, the national team is crap and the sport in general provides too much of a challenge, there being why people take up more acceptable easier local sports, is not going to love football like someone in the opposite situation.
