To get an idea what sort of techno you might get into, check out the livesets on THIS website. They posts sets from many different techno DJ's, and it should give you an idea of how the different subgenre's sound.

I'd suggest playing some minimal techno over the top of your trance tunes. Minimal techno is exactly that: minimal, so it's basically a fairly hard beat with not much else. So playing it over the top of trance should beef up the trance a bit and allow you to mix into your techno in a more flowing manner.

But, whatever. I'm certainly no expert, so just experiment.

That same thing has happened to me too, ive been spinning trance for around a year, but now im into more techno and tech-trance, im just going to follow what i like and not worry about everyone else
