you'll need to get a mobo that supports dual cpu then buy dual cpu's (like the AMD Athlon MP range)

My Radeon 9800XT should work well with it.

Newer ram too... thinkin about 2 gigs of pc3200, I have 768megs pc2100 now.

I just got a new cooling system for my Athlon XP3200.

I dunno if getting 2Gigs is worth it, more memory, but it wont run as fast as 1G, you wont be able to get as tight memory timings

I disagree, its always better to buy slightly older stuff, as 'next-gen' stuff is not priced in accordance with performance increase.

where a 9800 pro can be £130, the £280 X800 pro will NOT give you a 100%+ increase in performance in line with the price diff.

9800 pro or XT is still plenty capable to handle most things thrown at it, they are the best bang for buck cards at the mo.

I could never justify spending £300 JUST on gfx, I got my 9800 pro for £105

However, the guy got a 9600 xt, which performs worse than the 9800 pro for pretty much the same price...

True that! Its great when a new series comes out because all the existing cards come down in price.

The problem will be the RAM. In the future, no- actually now with doom3 & Half Life 2 it has be suggested that video card with need 512mb on board! At the moment the cards only have 256mb max. We'll have to wait another year for PCI Express to fully develop anyway to get the best potential.

well, they dont NEED 512, its just that's what would be needed for the game to perform on max video settings and still be playable.

they made doom3 kinda backwards compatible, I played it fine on my system at 1024x768, high detail settings, looked nice enough and was smooth to play, but they wanted to set the standard (and are prolly in cahoots with gfx card manufacturers to increase the next-gen sales) and allow for the game to still be played in a few years time.

think about games from 2000, played on a 2004 system, some of them look crap even on the highest everything settings

I shudder to think how much 512MB cards will cost
