i 'officially' started with listening to trance in 1999 and boy what a year to get into trance music.. it was quality after quality and almost everything that came out had turned to gold.. its like all the producers making trance music had the midas touch.. but the thing was i never despised other genres, such as progressive & techno.. i was a newb back then and inevitably, i preferred trance.. but kept the good other genre tracks close to my ears.. fast forward to now, year 2004... sad but true, trance comin out nowadays lost its magic.. most importantly, the melodies being made are very boring and unimaginative.. lost the 'freshness' and originality it had 5yrs ago or so.. i believe that besides being formulaic, if the melody is strong enuff, it can carry out a track but that hasnt been the case.. many tracks comin out sound like eachother, and all these 'updated' classics being released isnt helping the genre to move forward either.. now, i love trance and will continue to support it beacuse when done right, no other styles can give you the same kind of emotions as trance music, but you need to admit the truth no matter of how much it hurts... being biased isnt what a true fan/supporter does.. well, my 2cents on this topic.
some trancers that stand out for me this year :
Olivier - Future
Oracle - Aries
Arctic Quest - Off Beat
Frank Who ? - Wonderfull

Why do some people have this kind of ridiculous attitude? Just because you don't personally like a particular style of music does not make it 'crap' or 'wank'. Have you never heard the phrase 'each to their own'?
Actually, the selection of tunes you posted looks superb, a lot of more proggy stuff there which is the way I've been leaning lately as well. But having said that I do also love the stuff currently coming out on ASOT, Anjuna, etc. I think a lot of it is far superior to the kind of trance that was around 2 or 3 years ago.
On the subject of the thread, I think one of the reasons for branching out into different styles is purely that your tastes mature as you get older. I've recently found myself going out to breaks, techno, and even funky house nights, which I would never have dreamt of going to a couple of years ago. It's all about getting a bit of variety as well.
But trance is still very definitely where my heart is.
