Your argument holds very little point.

I started listening to trance, because at the time it was everywher and I quite liked it. However, as I began learning more about dance music I discovered there is so much more to offer than just trance music, which was beginning to bore me.

I think the point I'm trying to make is, that because trance is the most accessible music people always start off there, but once people learn more about the music they discover other things that they perhaps like better. Some folk however just keep on listening to trance.

To say people stop liking trance and start liking breaks etc to be cool is stupid.

i 'officially' started with listening to trance in 1999 and boy what a year to get into trance music.. it was quality after quality and almost everything that came out had turned to gold.. its like all the producers making trance music had the midas touch.. but the thing was i never despised other genres, such as progressive & techno.. i was a newb back then and inevitably, i preferred trance.. but kept the good other genre tracks close to my ears.. fast forward to now, year 2004... sad but true, trance comin out nowadays lost its magic.. most importantly, the melodies being made are very boring and unimaginative.. lost the 'freshness' and originality it had 5yrs ago or so.. i believe that besides being formulaic, if the melody is strong enuff, it can carry out a track but that hasnt been the case.. many tracks comin out sound like eachother, and all these 'updated' classics being released isnt helping the genre to move forward either.. now, i love trance and will continue to support it beacuse when done right, no other styles can give you the same kind of emotions as trance music, but you need to admit the truth no matter of how much it hurts... being biased isnt what a true fan/supporter does.. well, my 2cents on this topic.

some trancers that stand out for me this year :

Olivier - Future
Oracle - Aries
Arctic Quest - Off Beat
Frank Who ? - Wonderfull

...And that statement is coming from a person who has Armin listed in their profile as their favorite dj/producer. It seems like the people who always say what you just said are the hardcore Armin/Tiesto/PvD trancers. Get off your high horse and quit making lame-ass assumptions.

Sure, for some people it very well may be fashionable to say they used to like trance but now have moved on. But for many people, they seriously do not like the trance sound anymore and have aquired a taste for other genres. People have different tastes and have different reasons for what sound they prefer, get over it.

yup, i know exactly what you mean. i really hate that attitude of i listen to this music so im better, blah blah blah. i say just listen to what you like, even if it is cheese, because you should like the music for yourself and your liking, not because someone else likes it and it is "cool" to listen to.

Why do some people have this kind of ridiculous attitude? Just because you don't personally like a particular style of music does not make it 'crap' or 'wank'. Have you never heard the phrase 'each to their own'?

Actually, the selection of tunes you posted looks superb, a lot of more proggy stuff there which is the way I've been leaning lately as well. But having said that I do also love the stuff currently coming out on ASOT, Anjuna, etc. I think a lot of it is far superior to the kind of trance that was around 2 or 3 years ago.

On the subject of the thread, I think one of the reasons for branching out into different styles is purely that your tastes mature as you get older. I've recently found myself going out to breaks, techno, and even funky house nights, which I would never have dreamt of going to a couple of years ago. It's all about getting a bit of variety as well.
But trance is still very definitely where my heart is.

why do people say trance sucks and point to asot?
do you also go rap sucks and look at MTV style mainstream rap?

not that there isn't anything good on ASOT
you have to look at the GOOD stuff and look past the bad stuff, why focus on the bad parts of a particular genre?

Most trance nowadays is just ASOT fluff style with zillion supersaws, unoriginal melodies, breakdowns buildups and typical kick drums drilling into your ears which has been done so many times before. I find the current style soo boring. Bring up some originality into trance again and i might start to fully like it again. Of course there are some exceptions but minority anyway in the huge grey masses of ASOT fluff.

What he said.
