Yet I have a feeling that a few choice words like "redundant" and "disclaimer" are about to be used.

Finally I join the ranks of people who think aspergian is "teh awesome". Never really felt the need to praise posts that had what everyone should know explained with flowery obfuscating speech, but finally something useful! :P

You are much too gracious. And ayuh I agree on the GTA Vice City OST. Wonder what San Andreas will be like?

Thanks. Curiosity makes the world go 'round... although I wonder at times if a Wiki-esque FAQ would be more directly helpful for some questions, or things that aren't really questions at all.

rainbow_marble: For further info on "Electro", you can check out Ishkur's Guide at:

On his music map, he's got sound clips of "electro" (which is essentially "earlier ELECTROnic music which doesn't discriminate between hip-hop and 'electronic music'", as ludicrous as that sounds) and a rather colorful personal definition. And also, the Allmusic definition I pointed to earlier for variations on electro. Or this:

http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?...681&sql=77:2785

Travel the music map and see what you enjoy. The sound clips appear to be working there, too.

Cheers.

The Hacker is brilliant - you cant fault him. Moguai is also great, as is Tiga even though I havent liked his last couple of tracks. Not really producers, but some of the best names in electro are bands like Chicks On Speed, and singers like Peaches. Some of my favourite electro is the some of the fun cheesy German stuff like Lexy and K Paul though

Ahhh yesss!!

These artists that are more recent are associated with what is sometimes called Electroclash, aka Nu New Wave or Tech-Pop. But yes, like a resurgence -- ideal if you wanna get your 80sish groove on.

One of the biggest names would have to be:

Fischerspooner

And even the likes of Prodigy and Armand Van Helden have dipped into the sound as of late. Yay!

Of course, why do I feel that coming up around the bend is electro-trance?

Electroclash, as well as half these genres are bullshit created by the media. There is no need for them. In fact, there are many electro producers now who would be offended if you associated them with the 80s sound because this music has moved on so much since the simplistic synths of the 80s. Electro-trance is the worst genre ever, and it isnt even worthy of a genre name. It was created by mixmag ffs - it doesnt exist.

Fischerpooner are also a joke - they have admitted they hate dance music, and have only attempted the industry for the sheer purpose of money.

It's like an old joke from an alt-reality:

Q: What would Larry Tee say?

A: Some of us are just New Romantics.
