I'm a training manager for Army Infantry. We train young men here to be the up close head-on warfighters and then send them to the divsions where they're deployed in the fight. Every Infantryman killed, wounded, or fighting in Iraq or Afghanistan was trained here. We have the monopoly in that regard. We also adjust training every month against existing threats; after all, we're in this situation to win and we produce a lethal product.

The Army unfortunately is restrained by politicians. We could level Iraq into a lunar landscape, but they want us to be nice and install a democracy while waging a war of attrition. Hopefully, Kerry doesn't get elected and try to pull us out like Vietnam where we lose our objective for going in there. We could've leveled Vietnam into a lunar landscape as well mind you, but again it was the politicians and not our military might. You always hate to be part of the world's most powerful military machine with both arms and legs tied behind your back by political whims....

I'm in Air Force ROTC. In may of 2006, i'll graduate and become a 2nd Lt in the USAF.

I've never been a big fan of war [especially this business w/ iraq], and it sucks to hear about people having to go to Iraq when they really shouldn't have too...however the military is a volunteer basis and when you sign up there is that chance that you may have to go somewhere unfortunate.

glad to hear your cousin is back in the states!

Back from the war...

Anyone thinking of joining, I salute you. I'm out next year, after 7 years. I have a lot of respect for people that give up so much of their freedom to protect it like I have.

If anyone has any questions for me, I'm in the US Air Force.

Its both a good thing and a bad thing.

Good: She is 21 and is in the Air Force.

Bad: She's taking a flight from Alaska all the way to IRAQ!! and things have been hectic there.

I am concerned for her safety. Does anybody have friends or family that are in the military and are on duty overseas?

If so... post and pray.

The person closest to me who is in the military would be my cousin, (but there are also others I know as well).

We're proud of him - I'm proud of him - even if we may disagree on the wisdom of going into Iraq.

Yes it is concerning when 20 US service personnel have been killed in the last 4 days, but then you don't enlist to go bake cookies.

At least he got to come home for a few days to see his bro get married.

He's heading to Afghanistan next, so that's a very good thing imo.

one of my best friends just came back, he was stationed in Germany and went to Kuwait and Afghanistan also. And another friend of mine is in Iraq right now, he was in Hawaii for a couple years but was sent to Iraq a few months ago.
My dad was in the Colombian Air Force in the 60s and did some time in the U.S air force when he moved here in 68.

One of my closest friends on earth got sent to Iraq earlier this year. Part of his duty was to check the cars for bombs. I called his mother constantly to make sure he was okay, and still alive. Thankfully, he got back safe, no harm done. Not thankfully, he's going back in December for another year.

My main concern would be for fighters of the Iraqi resistance involved in getting US and British scum out of their country. They've suffered heavy losses at the hands of these imperialists
