thanx for the info everybody, you've all been really helpfull and I'm thankfull for that. Okay so, I'm really leaning towards the ESI nEar 06 monitors now. I havn't heard anything bad about them, nothing but good stuff.

I still am kinda turned away from the event tr series, I can't say exactly why, I just have a feeling. Alot of reviews I've read when there is a complaint seems to be about the sound of the low end.

The Alesis M1's MkII's seem to have mixed reviews, either people love them or they hate them. I talked to a friend recently who used to have a pair and he said they just kinda died out after a while.

So right now I'm definately leaning towards the ESI nEar 06's. I know the port is in the back though, which I'm guessing could mostly cause problems with reflections. The way my studio is set up at the moment, the backs of the speakers would be about 15 feet away from a wall at least. Do you guys think this would cause any problems? Also if anyone has anymore info about the ESI nEar 06's that they would want to share please let me know. I plan on getting these in the next month or so unless I'm swayed away from them towards something else.....

Thanx again for all the opinions

~Airyck~

If you studio (which is most probably you bedroom) isn't well acoustically treated then it doesn't really matter if you have good monitors because it will still be sound bad anyway.

when it comes to monitors ALWAYS trust that feeling, after all it's you and only you that's gonna work with em

about the bassport on the backside, well I have the little brother near 05 and it's the same.
It's a bit tricky at the start because if you place them wrong it will be some weird bassreflexes so place them very carefull and make shure you get used to it. you can learn to work wit hthe weird reflexes but to be able to do that you must know exactly when and how it's reflecting

damn, I regret that I didn't wait a few months and got the 06 instead of the 05

I like my TR6s.. not sure about the "sound" of the low end.. but it sounds fine to me... so long as the acoustics of the room you mix in are good, I get great bass out of these 6" monsters...

I've compared them to Mackie HR824s (perfectly flat)... the TR series seem to accentuate the treble a little bit and the bass is a little "punchy".. but thsoe differences can be learned.. getting a pair of expensive monitors like the HR824s isn't really worth it unless you have money to blow (pros definitly do, so that's why they own them)

dunno if I would call the mackies "pro monitors", they are more semipro.
when we're talking about promonitors we're talking about Adam, dynaudio and the likes and they range from at least 2500$ and up

Honestly I think its more of a preference thing...some guys swear by thier NS10's and some don't even want to touch em. True some are pretty crappy but i guess thats where price plays a pivitol role.

It's all about acoustics. put 400 dollar mk2's in a perfectly acoustic mastering studio and they'll sound better than 824's in a small bedroom. My Event TR8 XL's sounded like crap in my bedroom. I moved them to a large space 30 x 15 and they sound incredible. If your going to place monitors in a typical bedroom environment don't even think of getting a monitor with an 8 inch woofer unless your prepared to dish out lots of cash on acoustic treatment. if not get something with a small woofer and don't spend to much cause it won't matter.

I have the Alesis mkII's even tho I read what ppl had to say about them here(mostly negative) and I love them. they were the ones that suited my ear, + they sound awesome in the room i have them in. No matter what pair of monitors you get, you have to learn them.
