Re: How Do You Guys Construct your Trance Songs
1. How do you start intros, soft melody or hard, and how do you do it. bring in the kicks first or whatever. Strings. Please Explain
Depends on the song. Usually I like to start off with mainly perc and maybe a small bit of melody, that makes it DJ-friendly. I also try my best not to make it too boring and predictable, but when you're going for DJ friendliness that's hard. Usually it'll be something like 8 bars of kick and some perc, then 8 bars with more perc, and piling on more perc, then bass comes in after 32 bars, but really I like to vary it a bit.
2. What do u do in a mixdown?
Every so often when I'm composing I'll just turn everything down then bring them up to what I feel is good levels, that makes it sound better, saves me spending ages mixing after composing and also reduces clipping. Then when I'm done composing I'll listen to the song and adjust levels.
3. What do u do on your Outro's?
I usually get rid of the main melody gradually, like by filtering it out. Then I'll take away some perc (not much, I like percussive outro's), maybe take away the bassline. It's like intro though, I don't have any hard and fast rules apart from trying my best to make it interesting and DJ friendly.
4. What type of effects and On what instruments?
That's really something I'm still learning... I nearly always use stereo delay on things like perc and leads. Especially for any synth melodies, I give it some reverb and delay 90% of the time, always makes it sound better. For perc I'll give it reverb and a small amount of delay (or a lot of delay, if it works, like for shakers and stuff like that). Kick drum usually gets compressed, and often clap does too. Pads get reverb and delay.
I'm still not that experienced with things like chorus, phaser etc, still gotta experiment with them.
By the way don't take my advice as gospel, I've only been producing for a few months
