Hey Halycon+on+on, great story, the kazaa part reminds me a lot too

As for me, it'd have to be last summer when i was in Europe (Poland to be exact). Was watching TV one day, and put it on a music channel: VIVA ...I didnt change channels for a few days.

Had some crazy songs going on like Tukan - Light a Rainbow, and Robert Miles - Children. Those really got me to think of trance as my sort of music.

Then i went ahead and bought the album Trance Voices 8...only cause i thought it was actual trance and i didnt know any better. On the whole tracklist of 41 songs...i only knew 2...ATB and Sylver.

When i got it, i was happy. Didnt know there was such a thing as "cheese" so i enjoyed it. Got me into clubbing and dance music as well... However, as for trance, what really made it, was Rank 1 - Breathing (airwave) and of course 4 Strings - Breathe.

I cant describe those songs, they are the true defintion of trance and got my hooked.

Ah, it was around my freshmen year in college [a whopping 3 years ago] when i first started to get into trance. i like dance music before, but never really got into it [as far as buying music and listening to it on a daily basis] until i started college. i'm pretty sure the first trance [with the exception of going to a club one time back in high school] was Tiesto's Magik Volume 4. Sparkles really hit me good. been a fan ever since!

but tracks that really got me into it was a set from Gareth Sullivan on the netdj.org 2 year birthday (july 01, 03 ---- just for a fun fact... i joined TA on july 1, 04...hehehe), Gareth played stuff like,

Push - Strange World
Art of Trance - Madagascar

but the track that really swoooned me in was,
Darren Tate - Shine (Darren Tate vs. Jono Grant Remix)

My first introduction was Paul Van Dyk's 1997 Essential Mix being replyed on Galaxy 101. I recorded the entire set to cassette at the time, and listened to it continually. There were 2 song's that really stood out in that mix. BT - Flaming June and The Freak and Mac Zimms - Submission.

Hearing submission gave me a great feeling, leaving me wanting more and more. Also, during the commercials on G101 they advertised a compilation, an introspective of house. On the commercial was Energy 52's Cafe Del Mar, but at the time I didn't know what the song was. But it sounded great, so I went looking for this compilation.

This still stands as one of the best compilations I bought, whether it is because of the songs on there, or just the memories I get when I listen to it I am not sure.

It was easily more than a year later before I started buying vinyl - The Freak and Mac Zimms - Submission was one of my first. But the remix from the PVD set is not on the vinyl, and I have never been able to identify the remix used since then.

Another song at the time which had a strong impact on me was the digital blondes remix of Amen - People of Love.

Love is in the air

Faithless - Insomnia.

It was on a tape called 'Future Trance' (not to confuse with the German Future Trance-compilations!!!) that I bought in 1997/98. At that time I was totally into hardcore and 'gabber' (Because almost every Dutch boy/girl had a so-called 'gabber'-period). And I heared that song...and in two months I bought 5 trance-cd's.... Than Tiesto came and I sold my soul to the guy. I bought cd's, went to his gigs... I worshipped Gouryella, System F, Armin.... I was what most people are now: completely head over heels with everything that started with Tiesto, Tijs Verwest, Magik, Black Hole....

Than I bought this cd called 'Trancemaster 20' for 5 euros. And the music was completely different and it took me a long time to actually like the cd. The tunes were a little bit harder. After hearing more Pulsedriver and DJ's @ Work-stuff....I totally left Tiesto...and went into the their music that I now concider as crap.

In 2001 I heared a song completely different from Pulsedriver's tunes, also on a cd I bought 'World of Trance 12' called 'Laute/Leise' from JamX & Tom Wax and I was fascinated by this track. I played it over and over again, and liked it so much.

Than the sweet moment came that I layed my ears upon 'Never Look Back' from DuMonde and instantly I knew I came home from a long journey. I totally dropped Pulsedriver and embraced DuMonde as my new heroes. And they still are now.

you guys talk and talk but i havent heard anything for digweed and heaven scent. i mean for me this is the best trance track ever. i was listening to house progressiveand sometimes goa or psychadelic trance (didnt know wut it was back then :P) when i first heard it. not buying cds or looking for a good dj, i just liked parties and i didnt knew much shit about edm. anyways i dont even like digweed as a dj or producer but this TRACK WAS MADE IN HEAVEN. i first listened in a party and started looking for it. one day i opened the tv and started watching a movie... after a while heaven scent was playing and i was like "there is a god up there"... i still like it after 4-5 years maybe more. only now im a bedroom dj and pc producer(hopefully one day ill be able to make money and a name for my self out of this) and i listen to all genres but mostly edm and progressive trance/trance.
thats my story...

My first couple experiences with trance was when I friend of mine came back from the east coast telling us about this new music he heard at a club and brought some tracks. 1st one I heard, I believe was 9pm-Till I come. Then Dj Jean - The launch. After I that I began downloading DJ sets and became hooked. Music has been a HUGE part of my life since then.

Around 2000 when I was first old enough to appreciate anything other than what was forced down my throat, I started liking all the very "2000" trance that was out, Zombie Nation, Darude, Storm, York... but it was over a year later that I heard PPK- ResuRection, which (no pun intended) resurrected my interest in this type of music.

I picked up Absolute Euphoria a short while later, and on blind faith decided to buy it. The album totally blew the doors open onto trance and dance for me (Dave Pearce mixed up the styles on the album, so it was quite a lucky starting album).
