Unfortunaly, that is wrong. It is not necessarily the nicotine in ciggarettes that is the worst for you, but rather the additives like tar, which make the ciggarettes more toxic and more addictive.
Nictoine has been shown to both suppress the effects of psychosis as well as have give a slight improvement on cognitive memory. Dont be suprised to see smoking snuffed out, yet companies like Phillip Morris survive by producing and distributing nicotine in a newer, more medicinal form, and with probably a new name...

Yeah, tar. Plus the carcinogens, the rat poison, etc, etc. And the money wasted that could be spent on something that doesn't degenerate my health.
Familiar Chemicals in Cigarettes:
Chemical
Found in
carbon monoxide
car exhaust
nicotine
bug sprays
tar
material to make roads
arsenic
rat poison
ammonia
cleaning products
hydrogen cyanide
gas chamber poison
cyanide
deadly poison
acetone
nail polish remover
butane
cigarette lighter fluid
DDT
insecticides
formaldehyde
to preserve dead bodies
sulfuric acid
car batteries
cadmium
used to recharge batteries
freon
damages earth's ozone layer
geranic acid
a fragrance
methoprene
a pesticide
maltitol
a sweetener not permitted to be used in foods in the U.S.
There are more than 4,000 chemicals in cigarette smoke, including 43 known cancer-causing (carcinogenic) compounds and 400 other toxins. So you see, it's much more than just tar, friend. Cigarretes are so toxic that if someone ate a pack they would die.

So? What does that have to do with me not smoking a pack of Joe Camel's? Nicotine supresses psychosis and improves memory? Do you expect me to start smoking cigarrettes because of this? Smoking cigarretes is good for me? I've got 4,000 reasons that tell me otherwise.

Im not trying to say ciggaretes are great, or even good for you, but you saying that there are no benefits to nicotine are wrong. There are proven health benefits. Unfortunately ciggarette companies made them as addictive as possible with all the additives you listed to get people to continuously buy them (hey, thats capitalism.) Like I said, I dont condone smoking, but there are benefits to nicotine, just like everything. Theres is no black and white.
Edit: Also, I didnt mean to limit myself to tar, but I just assumed it was understood that tobacco companies pack their ciggarettes full of addictive and harmful additives. Tar is a major one.

Yeah, well I never said there were no benefits to nicotine so I don't see what your problem is. And a lot of those chemicals are there for other reasons too, like to keep the cig burning or what-not.
