you can have them. BC is not doing well and Alberta is riding on the high oil prices, when its oil will disappear, nothing will be left.

I don't think Canada is wannabe European so much as Canadians want to differentiate themselves as much as possible from the US. (Cdn flags sewn onto backpacks?) And who can blame them considering the disparate ideologies? Canadians seem to have some insecurity about the uniqueness of their identity, which I think is unnecessary because they are so different. We break the world up into simplified chunks (Europe, North America, etc.) and end up excluding the possibility of cases that don't fit into any of the categories (Canada).

Italian explorer John Cabot reached Newfoundland in 1497, while French explorer Jacques Cartier explored the region in the 1500s. In the 1600s, French settlers, who became known as Acadians, were the first Europeans to settle permanently in Canada. Over time, they were joined by settlers from British Isles and Germany.

In 1535, two Aboriginal youths used the Huron-Iroquois word "Kanata" which means "village" or "settlement" to tell Jacques Cartier the way to Stadacona (site of present-day Quebec city). Cartier used "Canada" to refer not only to Stadacona, but also to the entire area subject to Donnacona, Chief of Stadaconna.

Canadian are not wanna be Europeans, part of them is European, just like Americans

Wasn't there a referendum in Puerto Rico where they decided against becoming the 51st state?

I agree with you! I've lived in all 3 (numerous countries in Europe). Canada is awesome. It's not really like Europe because i believe the places i lived in in Europe (Ireland, England, Belgium) were much more free than Canada, the culture is too different to be able to compare it to Europe. However it's also not at all like the States in the sense that the cultural mix in Canada brought something which the cultural mix in the Sates doesn't have -- but then again I was living in Tennessee and to be honest, people over there were none too plussed about other races anyways.

Maybe i'm wrong though. When i was living in the states, the difference of culture wasn't that varied. Mainly Hispanics and African Americans.
In Canada, my friends are from pretty much everywhere, from Eastern Europe, to Asia, to Africa, to South America
I <3 Canada though hehe... but Europe is definitely lots of fun too!
