It depends, if you want pure functionality then get the cdj, although i see no reason to get the cdj1000, just get the cdj800. If youre looking for a cd deck that will let you be creative, not just play cds, then look into the dns5000, it has mirror mix, alpha, 2 samplers etc.

What r the best cd decks to buy?
CDJ 1000 MK2, Denon DN-S5000 OR Another?
I dont want to the opinion of a shop i would prefer to hear from ppl who have actually used them.
Thanks in advance! |
I have experience with both, and both are a piece of excellent enginering. The choice between the CJD 1000 or the S5000 is therefor a PERSONAL CHOICE. Both are excellent bets!

I have only used the Pioneer and the Denon, so I cannot speak for the other 2.
As far as how they both emulate vinyl, the nod goes to the Denon, but not by much. For someone going from vinyl to CD decks, the moving platter of the Denon can make the trasition much more realistic. The Denon also allows an infinite "on the fly" adujustment of start and brake speeds because of the moving platter(the sound really responds to the speed of the platter, unlike the Pioneer which responds to the indicator). For scratch DJs that do a lot of variable braking and spins, this is a must. That being said, when properly configured (start/stop speed, feel of the platter), you can get the same performance and sound out of both units for electronic mixing.
As far as unability, the nod goes to the Pioneers, but specifically regarding special features. The CDJs are very simple and intuitive to use. I expecially love the Wave display. Most of the advanced controls have their own buttons. On the other hand, the Denon has a much more conplicated interface. There are more menus and sub menus. That being said, the for basic opperation, they both have great control for song selection, cueing, and tempo.
If I were to recomend either of them to you, I would ask if you would need the advanced capability of the Denon platter, or the simple interface of the Pioneer?
I've had my CDJ1000 since summer of 2001. I got is from Japan right when it was released and its been going strong ever since. My friend has the Denons which I will be buying off him soon. I hope I like one just as much as the other.
