Matt Darey played here a couple of weeks ago. He was alright, but it was all old anthems. I have a few of his tracks and remixes and they're good, but it gets a little monotonous. I can totally understand not wanting to go to Tiesto, Jamie. He is hella monotonous too. I used to love those high energy, in your face all the time, sets, but now they bore me. Just my opinion.

You really thought he was uplifting? Hmmm...we all thought he was too techy and his set was just too monotonous. I didn't think he was uplifting at all. He didn't play but maybe a few tracks that I would have considered uplifting. He sure as hell didn't take us on a journey. He just wasn't into it and neither were we. Now his set at Icon a few nights later was different. He started that set off with an ambient feel and build his set to hard trance. I actually enjoyed myself at Icon...he had a really good set.

I'll be there Friday...for both shows. I see it like this...what else would I be doing this weekend? Going to a club that plays commercial hip hop mixed in with your occasional breakbeat track? Ummm...no thanks.

man about a year ago, i would have NEVER guessed that i'd be having the time of my life in a club that plays commercial hip hop w/ break beats.... hahahaha

GUILTY! i love that shit. lol

and i'll take oakenfold over tiesto any day.

amber, everyone's definition of cheese is different...i just remember that most of the night (last time at tiesto), people were just standing around w/ their hands in the air because it was pure synths...i was like ...i hate that crap. i mean a lot of it had hard beats....that hard trance style like you said, but to me, if it comes to a cheesy break down and build up w/ vocals and really synthy parts...that's cheese, to me.

i like house & nu school breaks (lexicon avenue remixes, hybrid)..i like stuff like Oliver Lieb, Way Out West remixes...James Lavelle...Layo & Bushwacka...that's my style

my style progressed from hard trance/pure trance (when i first got into EDM), as EDM itself progressed to more sophisticated sounds....gotta roll w/ the punches.

to me, it's like people who still listen to uplifting/hard trance and say that Oakenfold was only good in 99, are like the people who still listen to the Mamas & the Papas.. and talk about woodstock like it was yesterday

The problem is that it is the exact same music every week. Sure once a new song comes out it gets added to the playlist for the evening, but otherwise it is the same boring songs that I heard three months ago. It is the exact same music that is played on the radio. Well...I assume it is. I don't listen to commercial radio. I could not go out for a month and I still would be able to predict the music that would be played. I hate that. I live in a breakbeat town so I do expect to hear it when I go out. But it isn't even good breaks. God love my friend, 303, but his sound is the same on every single track and since he is a local everyone plays his shit.

As for Tiesto's show...I don't remember anyone's hands being in the air. All I remember is everyone standing around wondering why he had the bass turned up to the point of distortion. It sounded like SHIT. It was horrible. There were vocals? Eh? I left the main room and went and sat on a couch with my brother and my friend Neil. For me that is unheard of. That is how bad it was. I'm happy that it will be 21+ this Friday night. Oh thank my lucky stars! No offense to my underage friends of course. I think even they will agree that it was complete chaos in there with all of those extra people. Fire!

I kind of agree with both of you. I don't wanna go see hip-hop anywhere, unless it's Craze or Cubert or one of the top hip-hop dj's/turtablists. I don't wanna hear top 40 crap.

On the other hand, I am really sick of Tiesto and PVD's sets. My tastes have moved more towards progressive and breaks, but mainly progressive with some breaks mixed in. I still like hard trance, but a rare few of the tracks that I hear within the genre. I don't mind a 30 minute hard trance close out, but I don't wanna hear a George Acosta 2 hour hard trance set. The most recent set I did goes trance to hard trance. Now I'm working on a progressive and melodic progressive disc. When I play trance now, I'm usually playing more old tracks or new remixes of old tracks. And you won't often hear a whole set from me that is all one style. I like variance. Oakenfold might not be a good dj, but he plays good tracks and builds his sets a lot. Tiesto still has decent track selection, but I don't really vibe off his programming. Van Dyk's programming is terrible to me. All ultra synthed out, hard bassline tracks. I used to dig that a lot, but my taste has changed. Everyone likes something different, but I'd way rather go see Sasha or Digweed or Sander K or Hernan than the trance guys now.
