man about a year ago, i would have NEVER guessed that i'd be having the time of my life in a club that plays commercial hip hop w/ break beats.... hahahaha
GUILTY! i love that shit. lol
and i'll take oakenfold over tiesto any day.
amber, everyone's definition of cheese is different...i just remember that most of the night (last time at tiesto), people were just standing around w/ their hands in the air because it was pure synths...i was like ...i hate that crap. i mean a lot of it had hard beats....that hard trance style like you said, but to me, if it comes to a cheesy break down and build up w/ vocals and really synthy parts...that's cheese, to me.
i like house & nu school breaks (lexicon avenue remixes, hybrid)..i like stuff like Oliver Lieb, Way Out West remixes...James Lavelle...Layo & Bushwacka...that's my style
my style progressed from hard trance/pure trance (when i first got into EDM), as EDM itself progressed to more sophisticated sounds....gotta roll w/ the punches.
to me, it's like people who still listen to uplifting/hard trance and say that Oakenfold was only good in 99, are like the people who still listen to the Mamas & the Papas.. and talk about woodstock like it was yesterday

I kind of agree with both of you. I don't wanna go see hip-hop anywhere, unless it's Craze or Cubert or one of the top hip-hop dj's/turtablists. I don't wanna hear top 40 crap.
On the other hand, I am really sick of Tiesto and PVD's sets. My tastes have moved more towards progressive and breaks, but mainly progressive with some breaks mixed in. I still like hard trance, but a rare few of the tracks that I hear within the genre. I don't mind a 30 minute hard trance close out, but I don't wanna hear a George Acosta 2 hour hard trance set. The most recent set I did goes trance to hard trance. Now I'm working on a progressive and melodic progressive disc. When I play trance now, I'm usually playing more old tracks or new remixes of old tracks. And you won't often hear a whole set from me that is all one style. I like variance. Oakenfold might not be a good dj, but he plays good tracks and builds his sets a lot. Tiesto still has decent track selection, but I don't really vibe off his programming. Van Dyk's programming is terrible to me. All ultra synthed out, hard bassline tracks. I used to dig that a lot, but my taste has changed. Everyone likes something different, but I'd way rather go see Sasha or Digweed or Sander K or Hernan than the trance guys now.
