At the risk of sounding ignorant, what exactly would classify something as a "breakbeat"? Is it a specific drum pattern? A style? I'd like to know. Any help would be appreciated.

breaks are pretty much just when the bass 'breaks' from the original pattern, mostly from a steady 4/4 to something where the bass holds longer or comes sooner than previously heard. this is my understanding tho...late/

I know its been said already, but Ashtrax - Helsinki is an amazing breakbeat track! Just after the breakdown when the breakz come back in gradually is outstanding!
Also im surprised no ones mentioned Vitae - Energy Flow, absolute breakbeat intro, outro and mid section. Brillient!

well actually its still a 4/4 beat structure, but i know what you mean the kicks are on 1 and 6 pretty much most of the time.. for the most common or famous breaks..
and hi hats on 3 and 7 (in a 8 beat count)
ONE two Three four five SIX Seven eight
ONE two Three four five SIX Seven eight....
haha if you're in my mind you'll know what im talkin bout

Dito - Sky [Talla 2xlc Remix] @ around 4:37
Hybrid - Finished Symphony [Hybrid Echoplex Mix] @ around 4:11 again at 5:58
Pulser - Cloudwalking [Beatpushers Remix] @ around 3:15
Push - Strange World [2000 Remake] @ around 5:04
System F - Exhale [Armin van Buuren Remix] @ around 3:44

anymore songs? Like the original guy who posted, not a song that's completely breakbeat... a regular trance track that has a section, usually after the breakdown.
