It's the one genre that transcends all others while concurrently maintaining a cohesion with both house and techno.

It can be absolutely melodious, pleasantly and soothingly chilled, psychedelically mind-blowing, euphorically uplifting, or relentlessly driving.

Those Acid sounds really only came about with the addition of a Roland 303.

I don't know how anyone could possibly stick to one genre and one genre only as it would be like seeing the world in grayscale as opposed to color.

I try to maintain a broad and diverse palate. (If I was a DJ - palette.)

IMO Trance is the perfect style of music for me. It has absolutely everything I am looking for....well GOOD trance does anyway. The make up of a good song in my opinion is awesome sound effects that only an aquired ear can hear, a nice build up, awesome drop, dancey with lots of energy all the way through, possibly throw in a bit of breaks, or some chillout euphoric sounds, and just makes you feel good.

I know that sometimes artists disappoint you and sometimes all the new releases arent that great but there are people coming out every day, new fresh artists that can take it to another level if given the chance. Awesome tracks are out there and if you hunt long enough you will find them even though we dont live in a community where it is mainstream. And lets hope that the current artists we have today are always looking to improve theyre talent and keep on bringing it.
Cuz as long as theyre bringing it, Im comin to get it!

I started off listening to breaks and d&b but found my home with trance back in 2000 mostly because of Oakenfolds EM world tour sets and the early productions of BT, Sasha, and Tiesto. Over the course of the years I never really got bored with any one particular gene of EDM. I think it's important to keep an open mind when it comes to EDM because if you don't, of course trance, house or breaks will get boring to you. I go through my stages. Ill listen to Tiesto, Armin or Ferry for awhile just enought to get a good feel for what they are playing at that particular time. Then ill switch it up and listen to Sander K or Danny Howells.

As far as trance goes, it never gets boring to me nor do I think it's going downhill. This all the talented DJ's that spin trance, how could you possibly get bored with it? You have Fleming that it prob the most underrated DJ on the face of the earth that brings the progressive trance. You got uplifting/electro trance in Ferry. Tech trance in Marco V. Hard bangin German trance in PVD. And of course the Dutch style trance in Tiesto and Armin. As long as you don't become a muppet, I don't see how you can get bored with trance and it's nice to see that all these DJ have been making multiple appearances in the north east this year(NYC, DC, Boston, Baltimore)

With Labels like JOOF, Armada, Back Hole, Vandit, Ajunabeats, Tsunami, Perfecto, and Xtravaganza......Trance is here to STAY!!!

started listening around 1999, and loved it ever since....
it just gives me a feeling of freedom, and something that can always put a smile on my face..and that's why i listen to it at work in the car and everywhere I go....it also brings back alot of good memories like the ones i had in ibiza and summerstage.

and of course it gets my energetic and sometimes i got nuts during the build up and drop.

hope that makes sense

i started listening around 97 when i was pretty young, first it started with basic radio dance (ace of base, la bouche, etc..) then it slowly evolved into what would be called hard trance and hardstyle (was considered techno then like everything else), then it was pure trance (pvd, push, ferry, tiesto, etc.). now i really am not into mainstream trance, it really gets annoying to be honest, it is repetitive and everything you hear produced lately is no longer a mystery its all over ASOT. by having armin play all the brand new tracks every week, i feel almost compelled to stop listening to it, nothing sounds new, every track is a recreation of the other in trance these days.

lately i find myself listening to alot of house and progressive house, also a little tribal, and breaks. and i find that to be the most experimental, i really cannot find one song that sounds like another, everything has its own defining beat (unless the tracks are from the same artist.) the question would not be why do i listen to trance? it would be why do i listen to EDM?

EDM is perhaps the most experimental genre in music, it takes the origins of classical music, remixes rock, remixes rap, or any other genre you can possibly imagine from any country, and puts it in a form in which people will dance till the morning. EDM is entirely open ended, no matter what you listen to, you always have something you will like in EDM.

the reason i like EDM is simple: any composition can put me into any state of mind just by changing to another subgenre. thats my $.02

i've been classically trained for so long. piano 9 years, string bass 6 years. its all about melody to me. different types of edm also catch my ear tho, like prog, breaks, some techno and some house. i find it better to enjoy edm as opposed to just trance.

so i dont know if that makes any sense to you, but it does to me...

hey lisa

kindof like how i started too. in 99 my best friend died and as a result became depressed. at the time i had about 300 rap/R&B/hiphop cd's. then i heard chicane's Saltwater which blew me away... bought Behind the Sun... got introduced to Pvd's OTAB at work in 2000... and the rest is history

i found trance in general uplifting/inspiring. it wasn't filled with violence and sex like the genre that i listened to, but rather it was like some sort of purified emotion, distilled into electronic synths

so beautiful, i am forever hooked!

hehe.. heres how it all started for me.
Musics always been a big part of my life, Ive been playing classical piano for 6 years starting since i was 6. Then started playing guitar.
Ive been going to greece almost every summer since I was a baby, actually lived there for a year when I was 3 (long story) and every year while I was there I would listen to whatever was on some Music TV channel called SEVEN X, where they played House and old school Apollo 440. I also got involved with Punk while everyone else was listening to Nirvana. I heard NoFX - Punk in Drublic and was hooked. From there I got Sex Pistols - Nevermind the bullocks, every clash CD, and many many many local punk Band CDs. I even Released my own Local Punk Compilation CD when i was 15 (Long story - Didnt sell too well, costed me alot of money especially at the time). I listened to Punk, and played in a few bands, until it got saturated and sucked dry by the industry.
at the same time i listened (and still do) to Hip Hop, my oldest brother used to listen to Mobb Deep, Wu tang, BIG, Tupac all that good shit. But after Tupac and Biggie died and the whole east coast west coast shit began, I gave Hip hop a rest.
Then Tranceport entered my life, and changed everything. I stopped listening to any punk, stopped listening to any hip hop or any other music, and I was obsessed with trance 100%. My playlist went from Rancid and Lost boyz to Oakenfold and Matt Darey.
Alas, I feel trance has been saturated and become Formulatic. Moved on to Techno. Back to listening to hip hop (underground mostly), and I am now back to producing some wierd ass music involving alot of my influences. And no you can't hear.... yet.

-Edit-I never once Dressed like a goofy ass looking Punk Kid, Never once dressed like a Candy Raver nor Do I dress like a Rapper. Following Trends like that always seemed so silly and it was always around me.
