Ever thought of 160 kbps? That's the point when I usually (through both speakers and headphones) don't hear any irritating decrease in quality.

i meant i have 1 gb RAM and a 500 MB hard drive.


i was just kidding. i choose either VBR or 192. i would do 256 in the extreme circumstances.

LAME VBR 128-320 --alt-preset-standard is the official encoding method in the scene.

VBR isn't working with Trance. You probably save only 0.1 or 0.2 MB at the most because the fact that Trance constantly occupies the high shelf with the hi-hats and crashes.
It would work well with oldies, though
