Looking at his Talking Points and Memos in the past few weeks, he seems to have CHANGED:
I understand why some of you don't like him. But consider the old saying — those you hate control you. Hate clouds the mind, suppresses joy. It makes life darker. I'm a justice kind of guy, not a hate kind of guy.
Both Mr. Rather and Ms. Stewart have received punishment. Now it's time to give them a break. Many of you are accusing me of going liberal or soft or just being dumb. That's not it at all. I'm just tired of the hateful media. I don't hate anybody, although I dislike some. If I feel sorry for those getting pounded, it's because I identify with them to some degree. As the Bible suggests, I'll leave the vengeance to the Lord.
And that's "The Memo." |
On the Subject - This is perhaps the most interesting aspect of his statement, a recognition that the media is so dismissive of each other, whatever side you are on be it liberal, conservative and the harder to find it seem these days true moderate. I considered myself a moderate up until events unfolded in Iraq, until the Republicans have a new leadership or the Democrats take over, one which clearly affects the other at this point in time then I have to agree with Bill O'Reilly that those you hate do control you. I wouldn't say I hate the Republcan party since I supported them at one point in time not so long ago, on the other hand George Bush, Dick Cheney and the usual suspects yes I do hate them for what has happened in Iraq.
As for a softer side of Mr. O'Reilly I wouldn't draw that conclusion, just an acknowledgement on his part of deep American divisions today, media included.
