Let's be fair, Infected Mushroom is a psytrance group and not epic trance like Ferry. Those two styles may be *loosely* related, but I think Montreal can best be explained as "liking it hard", and Infected Mushroom is hard like techno.
Having said that, Ferry is OK... I don't think I've heard any truly *brilliant* sets from him, but as others have already stated, the contest is about popularity, not skill. I mean, you're going to have thousands of people voting on that poll who have spent maybe 20 hours of their entire lives listening to dance music, and just list the only 5 DJs they actually know as their top 5.
I wouldn't bash Ferry too much though, he is leagues above Tiesto and some of the other garbage that gets thrown into the top 100. At least he is *somewhat* representative of what the trance scene really is.

the dj list is not about who is the best technical DJ, it's about who the masses like, so ultimately no one should be surprised if a DJ that has sub par skills is high on the list. The majority of the ppl voting for that are not considering how well a DJ can program or mix (or necessarily even recognize it), they are looking at who plays fun music, who has been marketted well, who is recognizable.
ferry is mediocre at mixing, but has some great and fun productions. as soon as i heard 'rock your body' i thought 'wowza, this is great- edm that is so accessable you could play this at a hockey game or in a comercial- ultimately, that good for the scene' IMO he has contributed a lot to the scene for someone who hasn't been around for too too long as a DJ.
He usually has the crowd excited at his gig in TO, altho he is not always on. 2 years ago at the guv 6 year he was quite flat and the crowd was not feeling it, but most other nights i've seen him he has played fun sets.
