AS I don't have a burner (so NOT all people have burners these days!) and my computer is not that good and stable, I chose for a MD player about one year ago. since then I also have an audio cd recordable/rewritable, but still I prefer to record with the MD player. It's so easy in use, much more stable than any other form of recording (except DAT probably, but that was too expensive for me). Also, MD's are cheap and you can use them over and over again. Quality is good.
I have two MDplayers: a big one, to put on my stereo or my mixer. And a portable one, but that one doesn't record. The big one was about 125 US dollars, the small one was about 41 US dollars (thanks to that currency site!)

it's the sony MZ-E60. Just basic functions like a walkman with tapes or cd's. Really really small (all the md walkmans with record functions are bigger)

I have the Sony MZ-R900.
mmmmmmm nice, it's Sony's latest MD player, it records aswell and the thing I love about it is Sony have brought out a new format called MDLP (MiniDisc Long Play) and you can use normal monidiscs and record 4 times the capacity of a standard MD, 5 hours 20 mins on an 80 min MD Obviously the downside is that the MDLP format is not backward compatible with standard MD players
I had an mp3 player before, the problem with them is this, if you get one with a ahrd drive, you try and not get corrupt mp3's when the unit gets the slightest bit of vibration... if it uses CD's, the batteries tend to last only a few hours... (my sony with the rechargable and one AA duracell lasts 60+ hours) and also they are huge (too big for me), and last of all if they use solid state memory cards they are bloody expensive and small in capacity.
Plus it's Sony so it is QUALITY! and carrying around a couple of MD's is so much easier than CDR's.
So IMO I'd stick with MD, MD is here to stay and stay it will.

Hee Eye-Riz, were can you find mds with no recording function for 41 dollars (rond de 100 gulden).. i searched pretty good and all mds with recording function are EXPENSIVE!!.. about.. 200 dollars (500 piek).. I can't believe that with no recording function it makes a 159 dollar differcence.. Well I'm satisfied with my Freecom beatman.. it's not too expensive, 130 dollars
