So i need to ask what cd turntables/mixer would be best for about $3000 au.

Have a hunt round, you should be able to get two CDJ 800's and a DJM300 for $3000. Try Pro light and sounds.

You can learn to mix using almost anything. the CDJs 800/1000 work almost exactly like turntables except for the fact that they don't spin. if you really want to emulate turntables go with the Technic CDJs or the Denon S5000's

infact i prefer the CDJs to turntables because there is so much more that you can do with them.

Don't go for the Technics CDJ. It's probably the biggest disapointment of the year so far. I can't believe they brought that out. The effects are incredibly weak and the whole feel is just cheap. Don't like the pitch on it either.

Pioneer CDJ 1000 are the best in my opinion so if you are looking for quality decks then they are the answer. If you don't want all the effects you can save money and go for the CDJ 800s. Also good stuff but a little bit cheaper.

As for the post saying ignore the Vestax 275, I have to disagree. Good mixer (even found in some clubs) for it's price range. Sure with a A&H Xone 92 you will get a quality mixer but it's simply way over priced and just does not live up to the price tag. If you do want to go with Allen and Heath then a Xone 62 or something like that. But for the level we are talking the Vestax will do fine.

Cheers
Nem

I think this will be the only time in my entire life when I can say that I disagree with Nem. I own a pair of Technics CDJs and they are far from a disappointment. The pitch control is a bit loose to the touch, but very accurate and the feel is far from cheap in my opinion. A solid table and my favorite after trying everything else out before deciding on a purchase.

As someone said earlier, go to a store and check everything out firsthand to see what you like. I truly believe it is all about personal preference.

I highly recommend the CDJ-1000s and the PCV-275.

The Vestax 275 is about the best value mixer for its price range. I picked mine up for $360 US on closeout.

My advise would be either the Denon X1500 or the Ecler Nuo5, there the new bad boys on the block for there price, and then the CDJ1000 as well, maybe the DNS5000s instead, they do have more features just not to keen on the control, then after try and get a used Tech12 so you can learn what spinning wax is all about, and also pick up tracks that you can't get on CD.

But I highly recommend you go and try it all out, you might hate the CDJs and the A&H mixers, so go out and try as much as you can, its your money and your the one who will be using it anyway.

hehe, you guys have missed one BIG point here.

He said his budget is $3000 AUSTRALIAN!!!!!

Lets look at some numbers.

CDJ 1000s = around 1800-2000 EACH
Xone 92 = MEGA MEGA BUCKS, a 62 is 2800, a 32 is 2000!
Vestax PCV-275 = 900
Technics and Numark CDX = 2000
Numark Axis 8 and Pioneer CDJ 800 = around 1300 each
Pioneer CDJ 100 = 675 each
Pioneer DJM 300S = 800.

Maybe if you can scratch some extra moola together, CDJ 800s and maybe a Numark DXM-01 mixer (440-450), not a bad set up for around 3000.

Or go used and you might be able to find some better stuff for around the same, but personally for CDJs, I'd want to go new.

Look around though, I can't help you with shops in Melbourne, but an Australian net store if you're interested:
www.storedj.com.au
A little expensive in some stuff, and I don't know how you would return for warranty..................

One Aus dollar currently is around 70 US cents

But then on top of that, all DJ stuff is way expensive, so its a double wammy when comparing to O/S prices.

According to www.xe.com

$3000 au = $2,171 U.S. dollars.

Thats why I reccomend 2 CDJ-1000s and a Vestax 275. He can scrape by with that if he shops around, and if his parents are buying it for him they will probably round it out for a few extra hundred if they have to.

Just tell them that you're buying absolute quality equipment that will last you a good long time (which is the truth).
