maybe what he's trying to say is that, with Stewart, it's become some sort of twisted pretence/defence mechanism facade he uses to hide behind while not wanting to be taken too seriously but still enough to push his political ideology?

What I (and Jon) mean is, if you take what any person on Comedy Central says seriously then you're not as bright as you think you are. I don't see where you get the information from what you've seen of him on TV to psyhoanalyze his thoughts and intentions. Do you know him personally? Have you spoken with his therapist? All we have to go by is what he says, does, and what his background shows. You can't just go out here saying you know exactly what he's thinking and what his motives are. He is first and foremost a comedian, and he has been for most of his life. His show is on a network whose mascot is a talking piece of shit ffs. Look at yourselves.

The difference between Miller/Maher and Stewart is that Stewart makes no pretenses that his show is meant to be some kind of serious political commentary. As far as what he seriously tried to say on Crossfire, so what? He has a mind of his own like any other person. He can say damn well what he wants. I'd say he joked around at least as much as he was seriously trying to say something. In fact, given his life long dedication to comedy, i'd say it's a good bet that even everything he said that seemed serious was meant to be a joke on the normal combativeness of Crossfire.

EDIT: You can agree with me or disagree with me...i've made my point clear here. I don't see the point in replying unless someone has something new to say. His style of comedy is deadpan delivery of things that nobody would normally say and that would normally offend people. He went on for quite a while on an Ellen Degeneres interview about the reason for her brother being fired from TDS was because "We stopped paying him." "He didn't want to leave because he...ahh...wanted to eat.", and similar stuff without cracking a smile. I see how this could be seen as being an asshole. But again, it's just his comedic style...

i think what imokrouk and q5echo are trying to say is that jon was only funny when clinton was in office. now his comedy is based on the absurdity of bush and co. and they're not prepared to laugh.

thanks for posting the video, i wish jon had been given a full thirty minutes to finish his pro-wrestling comparison of crossfire. and i would love to see that bow-tie twerp on the daily show (not likely).
