man- cmon now- who are we to argue that trance doesn't sound almost the same? 16 measures at the beginning and then add a new instrument, etc, etc. Look, I'm not bashing trance- I'm just defending other genres. Rock isn't unoriginal, bland, etc. I don't know if you've ever tried to play in a rock band- but it's pretty damn hard to do it well. And for the record, I do like rock.

You listen to the wrong rock. Anything too popular usually means something safe and tuned for the masses so that everyone from a baby to a 70 year old grandmother can say...oh thats nice.

Some bands can still retain that vibe and energy and continue to be either popular and non-popular, just depends on the band.
