Ya, he was being born again, if anything
The saddest death scene might just be...
Gilbert's fat mother in What's Eating Gilbert Grape? SOO sad - she's so corpulent that they have to burn the house down instead of bury her because they can't afford for her to be lifted out. Very dramatic movie with GREAT acting by Johnny Depp and Leonardo DeCaprio.
I thought about mentioning Cowboy Bebop, but those who died merely moved into the 'lofty realm where the great spirit awaits us all'.

I saw Road to Perdition and that is an excellent choice.
Never saw Vanilla Sky. I don't plan to. Weird movies like that tend to turn me off.

Braveheart.
Also Skip in My Dog Skip, at the end when they show him getting arthritis as he gets older and can't jump on the bed. Only because I saw the same thing happen to my dog.

Darth Vader : Luke help me take this mask off.
Luke : But you'll die.
Darth Vader : Nothing can stop that now. Just for once let me look on you with my own eyes.
[Luke takes off the mask one piece at a time]
Anakin : Now go my son. Leave me.
Luke : No, you're coming with me. I'll not leave you here. I've got to save you
Anakin : You already have, Luke. You were right. You were right about me. Tell your sister, you were right.
OV Baby, you cant beat that

Very nice.
I think Star Wars shall be a mark for our times. The Greeks had their fables and myths, the ancient hebrws have their bible, American culture has 'Star Wars'. It's an epic tale whether you can put up with the fan club or not
Good stuff.
